I recently ran out of contacts and instead of automatically going to Costco to get more I decided to see if I really was getting a good deal. So, I decided to compare Costco’s price with the price at 1800contacts.com. The contacts I use are Acuvue Oasys. Do you think Costco or 1800contacts.com is cheaper?

Here is the price comparison I found. Keep in mind that depending on the type of contact and strength as well as your location the prices could be different.

A 24 pack of Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear plus one 1800contacts.com costs $139.50 per package. Right now, they have a special that if you buy 2 (two) boxes, an annual supply, you save $50. With the $50 savings, each box is $114.50. The total for 2 boxes would be $229.

Now for Costco’s prices. A 24 pack of Acuvue Oasys is $97.99. So for two boxes (a year supply) the total is $195.98.

Cost Comparison:

6 Months –

1-800 Contacts    $139.50
Costco                 $  97.99
Difference           $  41.51

12 Months –

1-800 Contacts   $229.00
Costco                $195.98
Difference          $  33.02

By getting my contacts at Costco I save about $33 a year. If you need contacts it might be worth it to see if you’re really getting a good deal or if it’s time to switch who you purchase from. Another thing to consider is that Costco sometimes has contacts you can pick up the same day, depending on your prescription. If they don’t have them in-stock, they will order them and have them for you to pickup within 3-5 days.
