A few weeks ago, we spent the weekend in the Outer Banks, NC. On the Outer Banks, there are 4 lighthouses – Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Ocracoke Lighthouse. We didn’t visit all 4 (more for next time!) We made it to 2 of the 4 this time.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is near Nags Head on the Outer Banks. The lighthouses are open seasonally from the third (3rd) Friday in April through Columbus Day.

The first lighthouse we visited was Bodie Island Lighthouse. It was cloudy and lightly raining but we stopped and walked around for a few minutes.

According to NCbeaches.com there have been 3 lighthouses built at this location. Each lighthouse has had a unique problem, it seems that all the problems have been solved since shortly after the 3rd lighthouse was built in 1872.
