In February, we spent a weekend with my brother and sister in Ocean City, MD. We weren’t sure about going to Ocean City in the winter, but we loved it. There weren’t a lot of people so walking on the beach was a lot of fun. We found a lot of shells and even a small Sand Dollar.
Places to Stay in Ocean City:
On our trip we stayed at the Holiday Inn Ocean City. Our room was nice it had a kitchenette and the view was amazing. I believe all the rooms at this hotel are Ocean Facing some are right on the beach and the rest are behind the pool, but still facing the Ocean. (A bonus to going to the beach in the winter is that hotel prices are lower.)
Things to Do:
There are a lot of things to do during the winter months, here is what we did on our weekend trip to Ocean City. The weather was really nice so most of our time was spent outside.
Visit Assateague Island –
Assateague Island is only about a 20 minute drive from the beach in Ocean City. If you have the time it’s totally worth it! On Assateague Island, we watched for Wild Horses and spent time walking on the beach. The beach had a lot of large sea shells and horseshoe crabs.
We loved Assateague Island so much we spent time there on 2 different days.
Walk on the Boardwalk –
Winter is a great time to explore the boardwalk since there are fewer people than during the warmer time of year. Though a lot of shops were open not all of them are open in the winter.
We tried some Thrasher’s French Fries and they were as amazing as expected.
Walk on the Beach –
We spent time on the beach outside our hotel – we even found a small sand dollar.
There are a ton of different restaurants in Ocean City to try. We already have a list of some new places to try on our next visit.
Watch the Sunrise –
From our room we had an amazing view to watch the sunrise over the ocean each morning.
We found a store between Assateague Island and our hotel in Ocean City that had some great deals on hoodies and other souvenirs. There are souvenir shops all over in Ocean City along with other stores.
What is your favorite thing to do at the beach during the winter?
