Fall is in the air and it’s time to figure out what activities you are going to put on your fall calendar. Living on the east coast there are so many things to do within driving distance.
Today I want to share with you some Things to do this fall in the Washington DC area. The area included is Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia, since they are all really close together.
Fall Activities Throughout the Area
Oktoberfest throughout the DC are there are a variety of different Oktoberfest activities. Checkout this list of different Oktoberfest festivals throughout Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.
Pumpkin Patches Apple Picking – Throughout Maryland and Virginia there are a number of pick your own produce farms. These farms are a fun experience for the whole family, even if you don’t have young kids.
Hiking – Find a state park and enjoy hiking through the beautiful fall colors.
Things to do in Washington DC
Walk the National Mall – I know this is something that you can do at any time during the year, but it’s fun to see the monuments with all the beautiful fall colors.
Explore the C & O Canal – The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal spans 184.5 Miles so pick a stretch and walk, bike or run along the historic canal. There are special events along the canal year-round so be sure to check out the event calendar.
Trick or Treat at the Zoo – The National Zoo’s Halloween event Boo at the Zoo has more than 40 treat stations, animal demonstrations along with other fun activities for the whole family.
Attend Taste of DC – Experience more than 60 Restaurants during two days along Pennsylvania Avenue.
Things to do in Maryland
Attend Homestead Gardens Annual Fall Festival – Homestead Gardens located in Davidsonville, MD has fun activities for the whole family including a barnyard, corn maze and pumpkin patch and more.
Travel Back in time at the Maryland Renaissance Festival from late August through October experience jousting, street entertainment, stage performances and more.
Experience Hallowmarine at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Dress up in costume and enjoy spooktacular animal encounters and even watch underwater pumpkin carving.

Things to do in Virginia
Callands Festival – This festival takes place on the first Saturday in October each year, in Callands, VA. This festival was named a Local Legacy of American Folk Life and Culture by the Library of Congress.
Visit Mount Vernon – Mount Vernon can be visited year-round but in the fall you can enjoy fall harvest family days and trick-or-treating along with cooler temperatures.
