6 Things I have Learned as a Mom

I have two kids and I’m sure many of you have more kids and experience being a mom than I do. Even though I’m still in “the trenches” so to speak of raising these little ones I want to share with you a few I have learned in the time I have been a mom.

6 Things I have Learned as a Mom #mom #parenting

#1 Being a Mom is Hard!

Let’s just get this out of the way first, in case you haven’t realized it yet being a mom is HARD!! I don’t care if you have 1 kid or 12, being a mom is hard.

Even though being a mom is the hardest thing I have ever done it is so worth all of the hard work, sleepless nights and every other challenge that comes with it.

#2 Love is Multiplied Not Divided

I think most women at some point (usually during their second pregnancy) have the doubt or fear that they can’t love another child as much as they love their first. I had this worry for a couple of days near the end of my second pregnancy.

But even though that fear seems rational while your pregnant, as soon as you hold that new baby be it #2, #3 or #12 you will realize that you love them just as much as there siblings.

#3 You Will Find the Time

The more kids you have the more laundry, dishes, and toys there are to keep clean. The more stories there are to read and hugs there are to give.

It may seem like the list of things that need to get done is never-ending. And some days (ok most days) you won’t get it all done. But you will figure out what the most important things are and you will get those things done each day.

If something is important to us we make the time for it to happen. If we can’t find the time then it’s not a top priority at the moment.

#4 It’s OK to Stay home… or Go Out

After having my second little one the thought of leaving the house by myself with two little kids was so overwhelming. For a while, I felt guilty when we didn’t go out and do things as much as before baby #2 came, but you know what it’s OK!

Eventually we did leave the house and start going to story time and play dates again. Now going out with both of my kids is as second nature to me as it was when I just had the little man. (grocery shopping with kids still isn’t fun incase your wondering.)

Was it overwhelming the first time? You bet! But after the first few outings being out numbered it will start to go smoother. You will figure out little tricks that make things easier and who knows you might even start to have fun and stress less!

#4 Take Advice with a Smile and Sometimes a Laugh

If your pregnant or already have kids then you know that people love to give advice. In my experience older women especially happy to give young moms advice.

Once in a while the advice you are given will be good but a lot of times the advice and suggestions can be little out there. Try to remember that those giving advice are trying to be helpful and what worked for them might not work for you.

While grandmothers have a lot of wisdom to share things have changed a lot since they were raising kids. Some of their advice is so funny it’s hard not to laugh!

Personally, I’m a lot more likely to take advice from a fellow mom who is in “the trenches” than someone whose youngest child already has a houseful of kids!

#5 Mom Guilt Is Real

I wish that mom guilt was a myth or something easy to let go of but sadly it’s not. I have learned that sometimes Mom Guilt makes no sense. I have felt guilty for the stupidest things, things that I can’t change but as a mom I wish I could.

Though Mom Guilt is something many of us deal with I have learned that it’s important to remember that you can only do your best. So do your best, don’t worry about what “other mom’s do” and let things go.

We aren’t perfect we’re just moms trying to do our best. Doing our best each day and letting things go is the best way I have found to combat Mom guilt.

Do I still feel guilty about things, of course. Remember I’m not perfect so I’m always going to be making mistakes on this adventure of motherhood and that is ok!

#6 Take a Deep Breath and Relax

Take a deep breath and relax. You have totally got this! Remember you’re not perfect, non of us are! Make sure your making time for yourself even if it’s only a quick 5 minutes and don’t worry.

Our kids aren’t going to remember all the things we as moms fret over. They are going to remember if we love them, if we listen to them and if we spend time with them. That is it!

Even if your house is a hot mess a well loved child means you are totally winning as a mom! #motherhood #momquote #momlife #quote

Love them, spend time with them and listen to them those are the most important things you can do. Even if your house is a hot mess a well loved child means you are totally winning as a mom!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in your experience as a mom?

  1. I love each and every one of these friend, I’m going to share to my Facebook page! I really love what you said about finding the time, it’s amazing how much time you can make for yourself and how much you can get done when you prioritize!
