Homeschool Curriculum Picks 2024-2025 (2nd Grade and 4th Grade)

We are just finishing our second week of homeschool so I figured it’s about time I share our homeschool curriculum we are using this school.

There are so many different homeschool curriculum options out there I love being able to see what other’s are using. (You can see how we use this curriculum and follower our school year over on Instagram.)

I hope these picks help you as you figure out what curriculum you are going to use.

Homeschool Curriculum 4th Grade and 2nd Grade

I’m going to keep this short and simple with what we are planning to use this year. My kids are at different grade levels but will be using the same curriculum (at different levels) for Language Arts and Math.

Language Arts

  • The Good and The Beautiful Handwriting: He will be doing this once or twice a week to keep improving his handwriting.
  • Typing.com: We have used this free program for a couple of years and it’s been a great way to learn typing.
  • The Good and the Beautiful LA: We will continue using TGTB LA along with their readers.
  • Explode the Code: We will do this twice a week on our Math Days.
  • Kids Journal: This journal has a short question for the kids to answer each day and they have been loving it. We do it during our devotional (morning time) each day.

Math

  • The Good and The Beautiful Math: We will be continuing to use TGTB Math since it has been working well for us.

Family Style Curriculum

Other than Language Arts and Math the rest of our curriculum is family style with my preschooler and toddler joining in as well.

Science

  • Beautiful Feet Seasons Afiled: I am so excited to do Seasons Afiled this year with my kids. I feel like they are at the perfect ages for this to be so fun. We can’t wait to spend more time in nature, enjoy living books and try our hand at note booking.
  • The Good and The Beautiful Mammals: I think we are going to do this slowly throughout the year as it will work well with our seasons afiled study. But I’m not 100% we will actually do it. We are going to start with Seasons Afiled and see if we feel like adding this one.
  • Kiwi Co Crates: These are fun science/STEM kits that are delivered to your door each month with everything you need to complete a project.

History / Geography

Art and Music

  • Piano Lessons: Both kids are taking in person piano lessons once a week.
  • Draw, Write, Now: These books are so fun to use on their own or along with your history/ geography/ science units.
  • Andrea Nelson Art: We are also following some of the art tutorials on Andrea Nelson Art Instagram.

PE and Health

  • F.O.R.M. Curriculum: We are so excited about this online physical education and health curriculum that can be done with the whole family and is bible based. (Use Code Adree to save 15%)
  • Rec Center Membership: We plan on doing a lot of swimming this school year to get the kids ready to do swim team next summer.

Other Unit Studies

I’m sure we will probably add in an unexpected unit study or two. But here are a couple I have planned.

  • Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe Unit Study: I saw Home Centered Learning do this a couple of years ago and have been wanting to do it ever since. I can’t wait to do this in December!
  • Christmas Around the World: We have been doing different activities around the world each Christmas for a couple of years. I’m not sure how much we will do this year. I know there are some favorite recipes we will for sure be making from our past studies. These are the free printables we have used in the past.
  • Election Unit Study: I’m still figuring this out. I don’t want to do a year long American Government study this year, but I’m wanting to do a smaller unit study Election week in November. (If you have any ideas let me know!)
  • Story Writing Unit: I want to have my kids write a couple of stories this year and do some author studies. We will probably do one this fall (I’m thinking a Laura Joffe Numeroff study and writing activity). I’m still figuring out what we will do in the winter/spring.
  • Yellowstone Unit Study: We are going to be visiting Yellowstone and doing a simple unit the week before we visit.

Extras: Games, Apps and Books We are Loving

Games

We love playing games and incorporating them into our school day, or family time in the evenings.

The last couple of weeks I have started playing a game with my early riser before we make breakfast. It’s a fun one on one activity to start our morning.

There are so many fun games out there these are some of our current favorites.

Apps

We don’t do a lot of screens but when we do these are our go to apps.

  • Adventure Academy: This fun learning app is a great way for kids to review all the subjects, when we have crazy days or they just need something extra. My kids love the science videos and constantly want to show me what they have learned.
  • Stack the States 2: We are using this for the kids to learn the state names, shapes and capitals as well as other facts. (We also have the first Stack the States but my kids like the second one better).
  • DuoLingo: My husband speaks Spanish and some of the kids really good friends also speak it so Spanish has been an interest at our house this year
