Finding joy in any situation isn’t easy and it takes a lot of practice. So start today and try to find something that makes you feel happy. The more you look for the joy the easier it will become to find it.

How to Feel Happy

There are so many ways to be happy and find joy in the coming year. These are a few simple ideas of things I like to do to help me find joy and contentment. I hope they can help you.

Be Grateful

Be Grateful for what you have, this can often be easier said than done. When life gets challenging it can be hard to be grateful. So start by simply counting your blessings.

Count your blessings allows you to see the little things you have to be grateful for even when life doesn’t go as planned.

Don’t Compare

In the world, we live in it’s easy to compare our situation to others. Not only is it easy to find our selves comparing our situation with others in the real world we can easily get trapped comparing ourselves with people online.

Don't Compare your beginning to someone else's middle Quote by Jon Acuff

It’s easy to see someone’s Instagram or Facebook posts and feel like there life is perfect. Remember your comparing your real-life moments with their highlight real. You don’t see all the behind the scenes you just see the highlights they want to share.

If we can remember that comparison is the theft of joy and work on finding contentment in our own situations without comparing it to others we will be able to find more happiness.

Set Goals

Set a goal to be happy but also set goals for other areas of your life. I have found that when I have a goal I’m working to accomplish I feel happier because I have a purpose and I feel like I have accomplished something.

Work Hard

Working hard is another great way to feel happier. It’s no secret that people deep clean to work through frustration and anger. Working hard at something is a great way to think things through and hopefully end up feeling more happiness and contentment.

Happiness is a habit practice it. This happiness quote is the perfect reminder that we are in control of how we feel and react to things.

Give Service

Serving others is a great way to get out of your own situation for a little while and think of others. There are countless different ways to serve others with simple little acts of kindness as well as larger service projects.

Exercise

There is scientific evidence that exercising makes us happy. So I guess it’s something I should start doing more regularly.

I don’t know why but when I think of exercising to “feel happier” I think of running. I hate running so it doesn’t make me happier, but I have found that I do feel better when I exercise in another way. The key is finding a type of exercise you actually enjoy.

Bonus exercising not only can help you feel happier it can also help you be healthier!

Simplify

We live in a fast-paced world and it sometimes feels impossible to keep up. Letting go of things that don’t really matter take away stress and help us all feel happier.

Simplifying doesn’t mean you don’t do anything, it means that you do things intentionally. So instead of feeling like you have to do everything everyone else is doing you take time to decide what things are important for your family and what things to let go.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. Mahatma Gandhi feel happy quote

Unplug

The online world adds so much pressure to us even if we don’t realize it. Last winter I did a 10-day social media fast and it was interesting seeing how different I felt after 10 days of unplugging from just the social media accounts.

When we spend the day at the beach or go camping we completely unplug except for pictures and it’s so rejuvenating to enjoy what’s right in front of us and not worry about anything else.

I will be doing a social media fast again this year and I’m looking forward to the perspective I get from unplugging from those accounts.

Get Outside

Getting outside is one of my favorite ways to feel happy. Getting outside is a great way to reset a day. When I’m feeling off or the kids just aren’t themselves we head outside.

Running around, breathing fresh air and experiencing the great outdoors is a great way to gain perspective and feel happier.
