This is our first year doing Christmas on our own without either of our families. We are really excited to start our own traditions and NOT travel over the holiday. As Jared and I were talking about what traditions we want to start we both really want to make sure we bring Christ into Christmas.
One way we decided we want to bring Christ into Christmas is by joining in the #LightTheWorld Challenge. This challenge is for anyone that wants to offer service this Christmas season to help spread the light of Christ.
The #LightTheWorld challenge is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The purpose of this challenge is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by serving others.
To help make this challenge fun and easy for our family to participate in I created an advent calendar using the #LightTheWorld Calendar. We also decided we wanted to document how we participated in the Light the World Challenge. So we are keeping a journal. You can get a free Printable Journal at the end of this post.
Light The World Advent
All you need for this Advent is:
Free Printable #LightTheWorld Calendar
25 Pictures of Christ I used a couple of these Mini Print Sets.
Printable Tags for Each Day printed on Cardstock
Something to Hang the Advent (I used Washi Tape)
1 4×6 Piece of Colored Cardstock
1 4×6 Family Picture
Colored Cardstock (optional)
#LightTheWorld for above the Advent
Making the Advent
Frist print everything out and gather your supplies. Then simply cut out each square of both the #LightThe World Calendar and the Tags for Each Day.
Attach the #LightTheWorld Page at the top of where you want to hang your advent. I chose to hang ours on a door in our Kitchen, so we see it multiple times each day.
Now attach each picture of Christ below the #LightTheWorld sign. For the last picture attach your 4×6 family picture. I did 5 across except for the last row I decided to do 4 because I wanted the last picture centered at the bottom.
Next Tape each of the #LightTheWorld Calendar squares to the back of the corresponding Tags for each day. (I know you have an extra Calendar Square.) The tags are a little bit smaller than the Mini Print pictures I used so I just overlapped the photos. You could attach each tag the colored cardstock and create a border so that the tag is larger if you want.
On your 4×6 Colored Paper Write 25 on one side and attach the last Calendar Square.
Now tape each of the Tags in numerical order over the pictures of Christ. With the Colored number 25 going over your family photo.
Now your advent is ready to go. Each day take the numbered card down and read the scripture on the back. As a family decide what you are going to do each day to bring Christ into Christmas. Save the number tag to use again next year!
Light The World Journal
We decided it would be fun to document how we are #LightingTheWorld this Christmas by keeping a journal. This simple journal can be used by individuals or families.
Because our kiddos are so young we are just doing one journal for the family. But if you have older kids it might be fun for everyone to have their own journal to write in.
The journal is designed so you have a lot of options, you can write the activity you did each day, you can draw a picture or you can even print a wallet size photo and attach it for each day. I think we are going to do a mix of writing and photos.
The inside of the cover is blank so that at the end of the 25 days you can write how you are going to continue to Light The World throughout the New Year.
The plan is to fill this journal and then box it up with our Christmas decorations so that next year when we decorate we can be reminded of how we brought Christ into Christmas and how we can Light The World.
Putting Together your Journal
Download (You must download this! It won’t print correctly if you don’t!) and Print out the Journal Pages. (This document can’t be edited)
To Print Make sure you select Print on Both Sides Flip pages on Short Edge. This is found in the settings section after you hit the print button. Once this is changed you’re ready to print.
Fold in Half (like a hamburger). Staple it in the fold you just made.
Let me know how you’re bringing Christ into Christmas this year in the comments.
