As we’ve been diving into learning about Charles Dickens and reading A Christmas Carol this December, I decided to make a simple Biography page to do with my kids.

We started our unit study watching The Man Who Invented Christmas as a family.
Then we started reading Who was Charles Dickens? The printable in this post is the perfect worksheet to do along with this book.
Who Was Charles Dickens
The book Who Was Charles Dickens? is a short book (100ish pages) about Dickens life.
Middle to upper elementary ages and beyond could easily read the book on their own. We chose to read this book as a read aloud (we read it all in 2 days).
The book starts with when Charles was born and ends with his death. It also includes a timeline which is really helpful.

The Charles Dickens Biography page is a perfect way for kids to record a few things they learned about Dickens.
There is a picture to color, places to write about his birth and death as well as his family.
Other questions I wanted my kids to think about include:
- His family’s finances
- Why Dickens started writing stories
- Themes he wrote about
- The most interesting thing they learned about Dickens
- Why people still read his work today
Once this page is filled out, we will add it to each kids homeschool binder and move on to reading a Christmas Carol.
