Since moving to our new house I have loved having a playroom downstairs. It keeps most of the toy and book chaos out of the kitchen and family room.
The only thing with having everything downstairs is that sometimes it’s nice to have some books in the living room to easily grab and read to the kids. So I finally figured out a way to have a few books in the living room area without taking up a whole lot of space.

At the base of the stairs going up to the third floor, there is an area with a bathroom, closet, and an open wall. I decided this would be a great place to put a little bookshelf to store a few books and puzzles.

The top of the bookshelf is simply decorated with a couple photos of the kids. Hanging above the bookshelf is a map of Annapolis, MD. This is my favorite part of the little “booknook”.

The map is a custom map I created using Grafomap. Grafomap has an easy to use tool to create a custom map that can then be printed as a poster, canvas or t-shirt.
Annapolis, Maryland may seem like a random choice for a map since we don’t live there. But Annapolis is a special place to our family. Both my little ones were born in Annapolis.

Each time I see this map it reminds me of the special place where I became a mom and welcomed both the little man and little miss into our family.
This map is beautiful in its simplicity, by choice I decided to go with a minimalistic look in black and white. I think the simplicity of the print is what I love most about it.

Now that I have gotten my first map I can’t wait to start getting maps of other important places in our family’s life.
These maps are a timeless way to remember big moments, like weddings, births and more without hanging the birth photos on the wall.

Most of all these maps signify moments we want to remember in our lives and remind us how important it is to enjoy each moment.
What city or town do you want a map of?
