When you were growing up did you ever play the game “Don’t Eat Pete”?
I remember having so much fun playing this simple game with my cousins growing up so I decided to make a Thanksgiving Don’t Eat Pete game.
I changed the game up a little changing Pete to Tom Turkey and creating a printable Don’t Eat Tom the turkey game board.
Thanksgiving Don’t Eat Pete
Don’t Eat Tom is a fun Thanksgiving twist on the classic game Don’t Eat Pete it’s perfect for class parties or as a fun game to play at home.
Don’t Eat Tom is a fun game to play with all ages this Thanksgiving. The game will be enjoyed the most by younger kids, that are old enough to understand the rules.
Thanksgiving Game: Don’t Eat Tom the Turkey
Have fun playing this game in the days leading up to Thanksgiving or on Thanksgiving day as part of your celebration.
There are two different versions of the game board one with colorful turkeys and a black and white coloring page option. Pick your favorite or print both.
The black and white don’t eat Tom page can be colored and personalized before you play.
What you need:
- Small candy or treat (We like to use M&Ms, fruit snacks, and marshmallows, but you can easily use any favorite small candy or treat).
- Game board (Get it at the bottom of the post)
Playing Thanksgiving Don’t Eat Pete (aka Tom)
To play the game you need at least 2 people, but you can play with as many people as you want.
Place the game in the center of the playing area and have everyone sit in a circle around it. Place one piece of candy on each Turkey.
Choose one person to be it. This person leaves the room. While the “it” person is out of the room all of the other players choose one of the 9 Turkeys to be “Tom” for that round.
After “Tom” has been chosen call the person who is “it” back into the room. Don’t tell who Tom is, make sure everyone keeps his identity a secret!
Now the Person who is “it” gets to start choosing pieces of candy to eat while everyone watches and waits for them to pick Tom.
As soon as they touch the candy that’s on “Tom”, everyone yells “DON’T EAT TOM!!”. Their turn is now over and someone else gets a turn.
After each turn, the person who was it only gets to eat the candy they collected before they touched Tom!
The game can be played multiple times so everyone gets a turn or two trying to collect candy and not eat Tom!
