Easy DIY Handprint American Flag T-Shirts

Growing up each year for the 4th of July we would have the Old Navy flag shirts to wear for parties and family pictures.

This year I thought it would be fun to make our own American Flag t-shirts and I was right the kids loved making this simple craft project.

American Flag T-Shirts

The American flag t-shirts are really easy to make and using your kids handprint makes it that much cuter (in my opinion). You only need a few supplies for this craft.

Supplies:

White shirt (one for reach person)
Blue fabric paint
Red fabric paint
Paint brushes
Parchment paper, newspaper, or cardboard

Making Handprint American Flag T-Shirts

Before you start this craft be sure to pre wash (and dry) your white shirts.

When laying out the shirts put parchment paper, old newspaper or cardboard inside the shirt between the front and back to keep the paint from bleeding through.

Now you’re ready to start making your handprint flag.

I found that it was easiest to start the flag with the handprint. So we painted the kids hand blue and stamped it on the shirt.

After the handprint was on the shirt it made it a lot easier to see where to paint the stripes for our handprint American flag.

To make the stripes we used a paint brush and simply made a line then skipped about the same width of shirt and made another line.

After the kids finished painting the flag on their shirts they wanted to personalize it a little bit more.

So fireworks and decorated slaves were added.

We let the shirts completely dry before moving them.

You may also want to heat set the paint on the shirts with an iron or in the dryer so the paint will stick to the fabric of the shirt better.
