The Easter story is such a meaningful and important one to share with our kids starting when they are young children.

Sharing the story with your kids can help them understand the importance of Easter and that it’s not just about candy and the Easter bunny.

As a way to share the real meaning of Easter with my kids I made a simple little book about the first Easter. (Get the free printable PDF at the bottom of the post).

The Easter Story Little Book

This little book could be a perfect activity for Holy Week, Palm Sunday or even something to do with the family on Easter Sunday to remember the true meaning of Easter.

There are two different versions of The Easter Story Little book included in the printable at the bottom of the post.

One version of the little book is with black and white images for kids to color as activity pages. The other is a full colored version pf the resurrection story. Both books have the same text telling the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

What’s inside the little book

The little book has eight pages that share the Easter story in a simple way for young kids. This version of the true story of Easter is very simplified, but includes the key events found in the bible story.

The cover page has the title “The Easter Story” with a picture of a cross, the tomb and Jesus.

The first page of the little book shares the triumphal entry. It says “Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, and the people welcomed Him with palm branches, shouting, “Hosanna!”

The last supper is shared next saying “He had a special meal with His disciples, called the last supper. He washed their feet, taught the sacrament and commanded them to love one another.

The next page talks about Judas it says “One of His disciples, Judas, betrayed Him, and Jesus was arrested, even though He had done nothing wrong.”

After the betrayal the next page is about the crucifixion it says “He was beaten, made to wear a crown of thorns, and nailed to a cross, where He died to save the world.”

The next page is about Mary Magdalene and the empty tomb. This page says “Three days later, Mary Magdalene and others went to the tomb and found it empty—Jesus was alive!”

Next the little book has a page about Jesus appearing as the resurrected lord. This page says “He appeared to His disciples, showing them His hands and feet, proving He had risen from the dead.”

The last page of the little book shares the good news of Jesus. The page says “Jesus told them to share His love with the world, and then He went up to heaven, promising to return one day!”

After reading the easter story with kids it’s a great time to share your beliefs about eternal life, talk in more detail about the story (with age level insights) and answer questions the children might have.

How to Use The Little Easter Story Book

I will be using this little Easter story book in my home as part of our homeschool devotional during Holy Week. But this would be the perfect way to introduce the Easter bible story to young kids in Sunday school.

To get the printable simply click on the link below to download the free printable version of the book.

Print the pages on regular paper, cut and fold. (Here are step by step instructions and a video for how to fold the little book)

After reading the story, let the kids color the illustrations and make the book their own. You can even ask them questions about each part of the story while they color to encourage them to think about the meaning behind it and remember the story.
