Inside: Fun and easy Paper Bag Gingerbread House Christmas Craft with a printable template to make it easy!
Christmas time is the perfect time to make this Paper Bag Gingerbread House craft. It’s such a cute and easy craft to make.
The kids and I not only had a great time making our Gingerbread House bags, but we also used our craft to make some fun stop motion videos.
Paper Bag Gingerbread House Craft
Paper bag crafts are some of my favorite inexpensive crafts to do with kids.
The Paper Bag Gingerbread House craft is the perfect way to get creative without having to be able to draw really well (thanks to the printable template).
Gingerbread House Craft Supplies
- brown paper lunch bag (white would also work)
- printable template
- crayons, markers or colored pencils
- scissors
- glue
- tape (optional)
- stickers, pom poms, glitter, etc (optional)
With the Christmas house template kids can color windows, presents, a door and fun Christmas characters without having to draw.
If kids want they can easily draw and add their own touches to the Gingerbread house.
With how easy this Christmas craft is to make, my preschooler and elementary age kids all loved making it and so did I.
Younger kids will most likely need help cutting everything out but they can do the rest of the craft on their own.
Making the Gingerbread House Bag Craft
The first step of making this fun Christmas Gingerbread house craft is coloring all the house elements.
I let my kids each pick a house template (there are 5 to choose from) and then we all had fun coloring the elements for our house.
Once it was all colored it was time to cut things out. Depending on the ages (and attention spans) of your children you may need to help with this step.
After everything for your paper bag Gingerbread house is cut out it’s time to put together your bag.
Putting Together the Christmas Paper Bag Craft
We used brown paper bags to make our Christmas houses look like gingerbread. You can use white paper bags if you prefer (or have them on hand).
Before you start gluing the Christmas house items to your bag it’s a good idea to lay them out on the bag so you can easily move them around.

We have found that layering different images is fun. I liked adding the wreath to my window and doors.
We also love making our windows and doors open with hidden items inside. You can use some of the images on the template or draw your own.
To attach the elements of your house or each other simple glue them wherever you want on the bag.
Tape the top (or side) of the windows or door to the bag and glue different items to the bag behind the windows and doors. This gives a fun hidden element to the craft, it’s totally optional, but fun!
There are a variety of different Christmas items on the printable templates. You can use as many or as few of these items as you want.
Get creative and have fun with it. My daughter decided to use white paper and make a snowy roof instead of using the roof on the template and it turned out so cute!
Once everything is glued or taped to the bag you can call it good or you can add more details. You can draw, or add glitter, pom poms, stickers or any other craft supplies you have on hand.
After finishing your paper bag gingerbread house craft you can stand it up and display it around the house for a fun decoration or fill it with treats to give a friend.
