Flying with a baby or young kids is a stressful business. But the more often you do it the easier it gets.
When flying we all know the 3-1-1 rule. (3.4 oz bottle or less; 1 clear plastic quart-size zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger.) But guess what you can bring select liquids over 3.4 oz in size through airport security when traveling with an infant or toddler.
Liquids for Infants and Toddlers
TSA stipulates that though select liquids are allowed through security in larger size containers they are only permitted in reasonable quantities.
Liquid items for infants and toddlers that are allowed through security are:
- Juice
- Breast milk
- Formula
- Baby Food (Jars and pouches)
- Ice Pack – as long as it is frozen solid, it can’t be slushy.
These liquids that are in larger containers than 3.4 oz are subject to testing. The testing doesn’t take long, just a few extra minutes at the security gate.
Getting through Security Quickly with Liquids for baby
Have all your oversize liquids together. I always have all my baby food jars/pouches in a big gallon Ziploc bag and the juices/milk in bottles ready to go.
When you are getting your items out at the security check point put all of your oversize liquids in a bin together.
Let the TSA agent know you have liquids for your baby/toddler. Then they are prepared and ready to quickly run the screening test on your liquids.
Testing the liquids only takes a few minutes and typically all that is required is for you to open the bottles of milk/juice.
Overall taking liquids through security for your baby/toddler is simple and doesn’t take very long.
