Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. With all the fun fall festivals, corn mazes, and pumpkin patches in Maryland there is so much to do during the fall season.
When looking for fall activities you can find a Maryland pumpkin patch with a little bit of everything.
From a simple pumpkin patch with pick your own pumpkins to those that have a big fall festival with all the activities.
There are pumpkin patches all over the state of Maryland some of our favorites are in the Frederick County area of Maryland.
All over the state, you will find awesome pumpkin patches to find the perfect pumpkin.
Pumpkin Patches in Maryland
Large and small corn mazes, apple cider donuts, and pumpkin picking are just some of the fun fall festivities you will find in Maryland during the fall season (mid-September through the end of October).
Other activities you will find at fall festivals and pick your own pumpkin patches include:
- Petting zoos
- Pony rides
- Hayrides
- Campfires
- Seasonal food and drinks (apple cider and pumpkin spice)
- Play areas
- Kids activities
- Giant slides
- Apple Picking
- Face Painting

Most of these activities (and more) are included with your admission to the pumpkin patch or fall festival.
Some activities may have an additional fee depending on which pumpkin patch you are visiting.
A Few Things to Know Before Going to Maryland Pumpkin Patches
Before you go to the pumpkin patch this fall here are few things to think about.
Think about what you wear
The weather can vary and be really warm or really cold in Maryland during the fall so be sure to dress for the weather…and cute pictures!
A jacket, jeans, and a scarf are just a few of the best options of what to wear when visiting the pumpkin patch.
Also, remember closed toed shoes are a good idea since many of these pumpkin patches are on working farms.
Call before you visit
Before visiting an orchard or pumpkin patch in Maryland it’s a good idea to call and make sure they are open, check hours, ask questions, etc.
Many pumpkin patches close for bad weather so be sure to keep that in mind as well when planning your visit.
Food will cost extra
While many of the pumpkin patches and fall festivals in Maryland include a lot of fun activities with your admission, food is not included.
Some farms include the cost of a pumpkin in your admission but many of the farms do not and will charge you for the pumpkins you pick.
The Best Pumpkin Patches in Maryland
There are so many pumpkin patches in Maryland both large and small. Some Maryland pumpkin patches are a simple pumpkin patch, but many include other fun fall activities.
I’m including my favorites and the most recommended patches throughout the state. As I continue to explore and learn about additional places I’m sure this list will continue to grow.
Baugher’s Orchard
Baugher’s Orchard in Westminster is a pick-your-own farm that is open year round with pick your own produce in the spring, summer and fall.
The Baugher’s Orchard market is open year round with produce you can purchase in the shop.
In the fall visit the Orchard and Farm on weekends in October to pick your own pumpkin, go on a hayride and enjoy other fun fall activities.
- Go apple picking at the Orchard – it may not be available for the the whole month of October.
- Visiting the Country Market for apple treats, squash, fudge and more.
- During the summer you can visit the farm to pick strawberries, cherries, peaches, and more.
Knightongale Farm
You will find both small and large pumpkins (up to 50 lbs!) and everything in between at Knightongale Farm in Harwood, Maryland. This Maryland pumpkin patch is only open on weekends!
Along with being able to experience what a working farm is like at harvest time, you can also enjoy fun farm activities.
Some of the many activities you can do when you visit the farm include:
- Fall festival activities include riding pedal carts, 40-foot barrel slides, familiar farm animals, a straw bale playground and more.
- This farm is only open on weekends during the fall season for the pumpkin patch, corn maze and other fall activities.
- Get your tickets online to save on admission to the pumpkin patch.
Butler’s Orchard
Located in Germantown, Maryland Butler’s Orchard is open for the you-pick season. The orchard has festivals and special events throughout the year.
Butler’s Orchard is one of the most popular Maryland pumpkin patches to visit for many Maryland families.
- In the fall you can enjoy the annual pumpkin festival complete with a hayride, straw maze, pedal tractors, jump pads, and more.
- Don’t forget to visit the farm market for fresh produce, baked goods, decor, and more.
- There are extra fall activities that are not included with the price of admission to the Pumpkin Festival at Butler’s Orchard.
Montpelier Farms
Located in Upper Marlboro, Montpelier Farms is a short drive from Washington DC.
A visit to the farm includes many fun fall activities the whole family will enjoy.
- If you visit during the week not all of the activities are open.
- Some of the activities you can do include a corn maze, rope maze, hay ride, pumpkin bowling, and more.
- You can visit the pumpkin patch and purchase a pumpkin without paying admission to the fall festival.
Rock Hill Orchard
If you’re visiting Rock Hill Orchard in Mount Airy, MD you can enjoy pick your own produce throughout the year.
While at the orchard you can also stop at the Woodbourne Creamery and get ice cream. This creamery is one the stops on the Maryland ice cream trail.
- The fall activities are only open on weekends.
- Activities include a large corn maze, pumpkin patch, pumpkin cannon, and more for farm visitors.
- At the dairy you can watch the cows being milked and visit the calves while at the farm for the fall festival.
Homestead Farm
You can visit Homestead Farm in Poolesville from late September to the end of October to pick your own pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.
- You can visit to pick other farm-fresh produce throughout the summer season.
- There is an admission fee per person to visit the pick your own area of the farm.
- You can purchase produce from the market without paying the admission fee.
- This farm does not have a fall festival, it is a pumpkin patch.
Gaver Farm
Gaver Farm in Mount Airy, Maryland is open from August to December each year for a fall fun fest and the Christmas tree season.
During the fall season, you can take free hayrides to pick your perfect pumpkin as well as apples and sunflowers.
- The annual Fall Fun Fest has over 60 attractions including jumping pillows, mini mazes, duck races, playgrounds, and more included with your farm festival admission.
- While at the farm don’t forget to try an apple cider slushie or seasonal donut.
- You can take a short free hayride to pick your own pumpkins and apples.
- Food is available for sale outside the festival so you can enjoy some apple spice donuts without paying admission.
- If you plan on visiting the fall festival more than once you might want to get a season pass.
Queen Anne Farm
Located in the Mitchellville / Bowie area the Queen Anne Farm is about halfway between DC and Annapolis.
You can visit the farm during the summer for fresh produce at the farmers market, but you don’t want to miss the Traditional Pumpkin Patch in the fall.
- Admission to the farm is charged per vehicle making it very affordable for families.
- Enjoy the beautiful fall season by exploring the pumpkin patch and find pumpkins of all sizes as well as beautiful fall mums.

Clark’s Elioak Farm
A visit to Clark’s Elioak Farm in Ellicott City has been on my Maryland Bucket List since we first moved to Maryland.
The farm is open from April to November for different events.
During the fall you can visit the pumpkin patch, enjoy the animals and take a ride on the cow train or Enchanted Express train.
- With a visit to Clark’s Elioak Petting Farm, you get to enjoy meeting friendly farm animals.
- At the Petting Farm you can also see Enchanted Forest Attractions from the theme park that closed in 1995.
- There is an admission fee as well as an additional fee for produce and for some of the rides.
Summers Farm Fall Festival
Summers Farm opened in 1996 in Frederick Maryland to allow families to experience “life on the farm”.
In 2022 Summers farm opened in its new location in Middletown Maryland just a few minutes away from the original festival site.
Enjoy over 45 attractions at the Summers Farm adventure including giant slides, farm animals, zip lines, corn pits, wagon rides, a huge corn maze, and more.
- Summers Farm corn maze is one of the largest corn mazes in the United States.
- Fresh food stands at the farm have everything from pizza and burgers to funnel cakes and apple cider donuts.
- Each year Summers Farm opens at the end of August for the Sunflower Festival and in September for their Fall Festival.
- There is no admission charge to pick your own pumpkin. The wagon rides are free just pay for the pumpkin.
- Admission prices are cheaper online and on weekdays.
- On weekends you can enjoy fireworks and even rent a campfire for a large group if you would like.
Horsmon Farm
Horsmon Farm is a fun Maryland pumpkin patch in Calvert County (St. Leonard, MD). Open weekends (Friday – Sunday) in September and october.
The farm started with a petting zoo, hayride and maze and has grown to so much more.
- Enjoy a hay ride, corn box, straw maze, and more when you visit.
- Tickets can be purchased online or at the farm.
- A small pumpkin is included with kids admission (while supplies last).
- There is a self guided 3/4 mile Farm Nature Trail tour.

Glade Link Farms
Glade Link Farms located in Keymar, MD is a pick-your-own fruits and vegetable farm.
- Enjoy several fall family fun activities when you visit the farm to pick your pumpkins.
Weber’s Cider Mill Farm
Located in Parkville northeast of Baltimore Weber’s Cider Mill Farm is a great place to visit for family fun.
Open throughout the year for different events this farm has a gift shop, market and bakery as well as pick your own produce.
- When you visit in the autumn you can enjoy barnyard fun family activities including mini tractor rides, duck races, mazes, and more.
- Visiting on the weekend includes additional fall experiences.
- Admission is lower on weekdays and at the beginning of the season.
Brookfield Pumpkins
Brookfield Pumpkins is a 15- acre pumpkin patch located in Thurmont.
With acres of pumpkins to choose from you can easily have fun spending time picking the perfect pumpkin.
- You can also enjoy a corn maze when you visit. All proceeds from the corn maze are donated to charity.
- Pumpkins are sold by the size not the pound.
- The farm is open daily from late September through October.
Councell Farms
Located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore 50 miles north of Easton, MD Councell Farms has it all from the pumpkin patch to creamery.
- Spend a few hours or all day enjoying over 20 farm-related activities including jumping pillow and corn maze.
- Don’t forget to enjoy some ice cream when you visit.
- Grandparents who join their families get free admission to the field of fun activities.
- Annual passes are great way to save if you live close to this Maryland pumpkin patch and fall festival.

Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch
Jumbo’s pumpkin patch in Middletown Maryland is open in September and October each fall.
Along with a large pumpkin patch for pumpkin picking, you can also enjoy a petting zoo, jumping pillow, and 20-acre corn maze perfect for the whole family.
- Admission to the farm is free.
- Pony rides, face painting, and corn cannon are open on select dates for an additional fee.
- For the fall festival on weekends there is an admission fee.
- Admission includes hayrides, corn maze, petting zoo, jumping pillow & more!
Larriland Farm
Located in Woodbine Maryland Larriland Farm is a popular farm to visit for those living in the D.C. area. It’s a day trip from D.C and has a lot to offer.
The season at Larriland Farm starts with strawberries in late May and continues through the fall with pumpkins.
- If you go to the farm for the pumpkin patch you can also do a hayride (sitting on straw bales) to the patch to pick a pumpkin.
- You can also enjoy doing the straw maze.
- 20 minute tractor drawn hayrides can be enjoyed on Saturdays and Sundays during the fall for a fee.

We have visited Larriland Farm’s pick your own apple orchards in the past and the kids really enjoyed it.
Sharp’s at Waterford Farm
Sharp’s at Waterford is a 530-acre working farm in Howard County.
- The farm is an educational farm with programs for kids and adults.
- They host special events throughout the year including fall festivities.
Spider Hall Farm
Located in Prince Frederick, Maryland Spider Hall Farm has had traditional fall activities in the past as well as special events.
- You can check their Facebook page for up to date infromation about what they will be doing this year.
- When you visit the farm be sure to stop at Mrs. Moo’s Corner for farm-fresh ice cream.
Myne’s Tree Farm
Mayne’s Tree Farm Pumpkin Patch is open daily for the month of October. You will find pumpkins of all sizes along with some fun fall activities.
- Fall activities on the farm include hayrides to the patch, corn maze, apple cider, straw jumping, and more.
- You can visit the farm in November and December to cut your own Christmas tree.

Miller Farms
Enjoy Fall Family Fun at Miller Farms in Clinton, Maryland.
This Maryland pumpkin patch has yummy fall treats, fun activities and of course pumpkins!
- Admission includes fun fall activities around the farm including a hayride, corn maze, and more.
- Be sure to stop at the Farm Market for homemade ice cream, snacks, pumpkins, and more.
Shlagel Farms
When visiting the pumpkin patch at Shlagel Farms in Waldorf you can enjoy several fun fall activities at the same time.
- The farm is open select days so be sure to check before visiting.
- Admission is charged for everyone 24 months and older.
Bowles Farm
Enjoy a weekend visit to Bowles Farm in Southern Maryland.
- Bowles has southern Maryland’s largest corn maze, a pick your own pumpkin patch, hayride, and more.
- Tickets are purchased at the gate not online.
Magnolia Meadow Farms
Magnolia Meadow Farms previously known as Winterbrook Farms is a farm you will find on many people’s lists of the best pumpkin patches in Maryland.
Magnolia Meadow Farms is a real working farm that not only has pumpkins, gourds, sunflowers, and cut flowers but also 150+ acres of hay, corn, and soybeans.
The Fall festival includes over 20 fun activities.
- Enjoy Maryland’s largest corn maze, hayrides, mini ziplines and more when you visit the farm.
- Open on the weekends
Tips for Visiting Pumpkin Patches in Maryland
If you’re going to visit any of these pumpkin farms in Maryland and enjoy the fall festivals here are a few tips to help you have a wonderful time as a family at the pumpkin patch this fall.
Call or check the pumpkin patches website before visiting-Many farms close if the weather is bad, you don’t want to drive to the farm and find it closed.
Wear good shoes– Walking through a pumpkin patch and corn maze you usually want to have closed toe shoes.
Check the Food Policy- Check the farms food policy before you visit. If you can bring in outside food and drink I recommend bringing some snacks and water.
Bring a wagon – If you’re visiting one of these Maryland pumpkin patches with little ones I recommend bringing a wagon. Even if you park it and go on the hayride then when you get back you can put the pumpkins (or kids) in the wagon for your walk to the car.
Bring a stroller – For the fall festival portions of these pumpkin patches if you’re bringing little kids I recommend bringing a stroller you can off road with.
Don’t forget bug spray and sunscreen – Depending on the day you visit you may not need these items but it’s always good to be prepared.
Dress for the weather – Maryland weather can be funny some years you’ll wear shorts and need sunscreen in October other years you’ll want a hoodie.
Get Tickets Online – Some Maryland pumpkin patches offer a discount for admission tickets purchased online.
Take advantage of fun photo ops – Many of these farms and pumpkin patches have cute photo areas that you’ll want to take advantage of. Plus photos in the pumpkin patch are always so cute!
No matter which farm you choose to visit I’m sure you will have a fun family farm experience this fall.
