Can you believe how quickly the summer went? We had so much fun going on little road trips and doing fun summer activities.
Even though summer was a lot of fun I am getting excited for fall weather and the holidays.
September is the start of the fall season for many of us, and the last month before all the official and BIG holidays start.

In September Kids are back in school and the temperatures are starting to cool off. Some areas even start to see leaves changing colors.
AND… it’s time when it’s finally ok to get excited about all things pumpkin!
September is also a month filled with wacky and fun holidays that you can easily celebrate with your family.
Holidays in September
Celebrating these holidays doesn’t have to be anything big and you don’t have to celebrate all of them. But if you’re looking for a fun way to change up your day you might want to throw in a fun and wacky holiday activity.
September 1 – World Letter Writing Day
Celebrate World Letter Writing Day by you guessed it writing a letter. Grab some paper, a pen, crayons and even some stickers and write a good old-fashioned letter.
Let the kids pick who they want to write to and let them help lick the envelope and put on the stamp.
You could also celebrate this holiday by writing a letter to your kids that they can get in the mail. Because who doesn’t love getting something in the mail.
September 2 – National Blueberry Popsicle Day
Enjoy a delicious Blueberry popsicle on this fun holiday or even better make your own blueberry popsicles. Try this recipe using fresh fruit and coconut water.
September 3 – National Skyscraper Day
National Skyscraper Day is celebrated on Louis H. Sullivan (an architect of early skyscrapers) birthday.
Celebrate this day by visiting a skyscraper, reading a book about skyscrapers, or trying to build a skyscraper out of toothpicks and marshmallows or Lego bricks.
September 4 – Eat an Extra Dessert Day
Enjoy this holiday by eating an extra dessert.

September 5 – National Cheese Pizza Day
Don’t worry about dinner just grab a cheese pizza!
If you want to make your own cheese pizza’s we love making these fast and easy pita pizzas in the air fryer.
September 6 – Read a Book Day
This is a great day to spend some time reading together as a family or on your own.

September 7- National Neither Snow Nor Rain Day
This National Day is celebrating the opening of the New York Post Office on September 7, 1914.
The inscription over the entrance of the central post office in New York City reads ” Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
To celebrate this national day you could send something in the mail by dropping it off at the post office.
Another way to celebrate is by giving a drink or snack to your mailman.
September 8 – Star Trek Day
On September 8, 1966 Stark Trek was shown for the first time on television.
Each year on September 8 Star Trek fans can celebrate the start of this popular series.
September 9 – National Teddy Bear Day
There are several fun way to celebrate National Teddy Bear Day.
A Teddy Bear tea party or picnic is always fun. You could also do a cute teddy bear craft.
September 10 – National TV Dinner Day
TV dinners were invented in 1953 and over the years more and more options have been added.
In honor of this National Day you could have TV dinners for your nightly meal.
September 11- Remember 9/11
On this day it’s a great time to talk to your kids about what happened on 9/11 and what you remember about that day.
There are several books and movies that share the story of 9/11, if it’s something your kids are old enough to understand and handle learning more about.
This holiday is a little bit harder to remember with young kids, but it’s a great time to do some patriotic crafts and listen to patriotic music.

September 12 -National Chocolate Milkshakes Day and National Video Games Day
I had a hard time deciding which holiday to include for September 12 so I included two!
National Chocolate Milk Day
I had to include chocolate milkshake day because we love chocolate milkshakes!
National Video Games Day
Since most kids I know love playing video games this is a great day to set aside some time to play video games together as a family.
Our family really enjoys playing Mario Kart together.
September 13 – Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day
This is a great holiday for parents with older kids to enjoy. Have the kids help with the meals.
If you have young kids get them in the kitchen to help you cook something.
Here are some quick and easy recipes to make with young kids.
September 14 – National Coloring Day
Grab the crayons, markers, pencils, and any other coloring supplies and have fun coloring.

September 15- National Online Learning Day
Young and Old we are all able to learn so much online. The internet is a great place to learn about different things we are interested in.
ABC Mouse and Adventure Academy are two of our favorite online learning websites. (The kids think they are playing and I know they are learning.)
We have also recently started using typing.com for their free typing classes.

September 16 – National Guacamole Day and National Play-Doh Day
Another September day I couldn’t decide on only one fun national day. So I’ve included two that would be fun to celebrate with kids.
National Guacamole Day
Grab the Avocados and make this simple guacamole recipe! It’s perfect as a chip dip or with tacos.
National Play-Doh Day
Buy some play-doh or make your own and have fun creating together.
September 17 – National Apple Dumpling Day
Yum Apple Dumplings! Celebrate this holiday by making your own apple dumplings or going to the store to grab some.
You could also celebrate by going apple picking!
September 18- Rice Krispies Treat Day
Rice Krispies are one of the easiest treats to make with kids, thank goodness!
Add the ingredients to your shopping list and have fun making some Rice Krispies Treats together.
You could always have them made and ready for an after school snack when the kids get home if that works better for your family.
September 19 – International Talk Like a Pirate Day
Keep it simple and enjoy watching a pirate movie, telling pirate jokes or simply talking like a pirate.
September 20 – National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Grab some pepperoni pizza and have a fun pizza night together as a family.
September 21 – Miniature Golf Day
Celebrate this fun day by having a family date to the local miniature golf course.
September 22- National Ice Cream Cone Day
Head out to a favorite ice cream shop or creamery to grab an ice cream cone or make one for yourself at home.
You could even try your hand at making your own cones if you’re feeling adventurous.

September 23 – National Checkers Day
Have fun playing a game of checkers together.
You could even take it outside and play a big yard game of checkers and enjoy the fall weather.
September 24 – National Punctuation Day
The book Semicolons, Cupcakes and Cucumbers would be the perfect read for this National Day.
September 25 – National Comic Book Day
Read some comic books together or have fun coming up with your own comic book story.
September 26- Johnny Appleseed Day and National Pancake Day
It’s another day where I’m sharing not one but two fun days in September.
Johnny Appleseed Day
Spend some time learning about Johnny Appleseed and do a fun craft or two.
National Pancake Day
Celebrate this fun national day by eating pancakes!
It’s one of my kids favorite foods, they would probably be happy eating different kinds of pancakes for each meal.
September 27 – Ancestor Appreciation Day
Spend a little time talking about your ancestors today.
You could fill out a pedigree chart with your kids or you could simply share some stories or photos from your childhood.
If you live close to grandparents this is also a great time to give them a visit.

September 28 – Read a Child a Book You Like Day
Grab one of your favorite children’s books and have fun sharing it with the kids in your life.
September 29 – Goose Day
You could try eating goose on this day or just play a quick game of Duck, Duck, Goose.
September 30 – International Podcast Day
Spend sometime listening to your favorite podcast or discover a new one to enjoy.
Holidays With Different Dates Each Year
Labor Day
Labor Day is always the first Monday in September.
There are a lot of fun things to do over the Labor Day weekend and many families have annual traditions.
We usually enjoy going camping as a family, but here are some other Labor Day Traditions to check out.
First Day of Fall
First Day of Fall is celebrated in September but not on a set day.
The Fall Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere is observed when the Sun crosses the celestial equator going south. (when the sun is directly above the equator and day and night are equal length).
Each year the fall equinox falls about September 22 or 23.
