If you’ve been around here for very long you know I love Bucket Lists! So, of course, we had to have a summer bucket list!
I love creating bucket lists to help us keep track of things and make sure we are doing the fun things we want to.

Ideas for Your Summer Bucket List
Visit a State Park
No matter where you live there is probably a State Park nearby. We have been able to visit a couple of state parks in a few different states and have really enjoyed the time at those parks.
A couple state parks we have visited in Maryland are.
- Calvert Cliffs State Park is known for its unique fossils and sharks’ teeth. This park is located in Calvert County, Maryland.
- Cunningham Falls is a fun state park with a hike to a waterfall and a lake also located in Maryland.
Play at the Beach
If you live near the ocean or a lake spending the day at the beach is a great summer activity, it’s one of my favorites. The water is so relaxing and the beach is such a great place to make family memories.

Visit an Amusement Park
Amusement parks are always a fun summer activity. There are so many different amusement parks throughout the country everything from the famous Disney Parks to little known amusement parks.
One of our favorite hidden amusement parks is Knoebels. It’s a free admission amusement park located in Elysburg, PA.
Many people have never even heard of the park but it’s a lot of fun to visit if you get the chance.

Play at the Park
The park is always a hit, especially for young kids. Plan to spend some time playing at your favorite park or find a new park this summer.
A fun park we discovered Maryland is the Wizard of Oz park. In Utah, we found an awesome park in St. George called Thunder Junction.
Go Swimming
Go to the community pool, find a water hole, or set up a kiddie pool in the backyard with warm water.
No matter where you decide to go swimming have fun splashing in the water and enjoying the summer sun.
Explore a Zoo
The zoo is a great place to see different animals and have fun as a family. It’s one of our favorite places to go exploring, the kids love seeing all of the different animals and it’s such a fun way to get outside!
We like to visit Zoo’s when we are traveling so we have visited several different Zoo’s across the country and have a few more on our list.

Visit a Farmers Market
Find out when your community has a farmers market and go have fun exploring and getting some farm-fresh produce to enjoy at home.
Many farmer’s markets also have performances and other activities that the whole family can enjoy.
Ride a Train
There are several places throughout the country that you can go on train rides. We even found a playground that had a fun short little train ride in St. George, Utah.
Catch Fireflies
If you live in an area that Fireflies can be found head outside and have some fun chasing the bugs and trying to catch them.
If you don’t have fireflies (lightning bugs) try to catch some other insects.
Have a Picnic
Going on a picnic is always a fun way to get outside and have some fun. You can make a Picnic outing as simple as eating lunch in the back yard. You can also take the picnic to the park, a beach or on a hike.
Join a Summer Reading Program
There are several free summer reading programs, many of them are national, that are the perfect way to encourage kids to read.
These programs are a great way to reward kids for reading during summer vacation.
Blow Bubbles
There are so many fun ways to have fun with bubbles. We recently tried the Glove-A-Bubbles and the kids thought they were so fun!
Make Popsicles
Popsicles are a favorite summer treat for most families. Some of our favorite homemade popsicles are made using coconut water.
Play in Sprinklers
The sprinklers are a fun summer activity that doesn’t take much prep and is perfect for hot summer days.
Watch Fireworks
With the 4th of July celebration in the United States, many communities put on fireworks displays. These are such fun and typically a free way to celebrate Independence Day.
If staying home is for the 4th is more your thing here are some fun ways to celebrate at home.
Make Pizza
Pizza is one of my kid’s favorite foods, making homemade individual pizzas is a fun way to get the kids in the kitchen. Plus individual pizzas cooked in the air fryer are fast, easy and they don’t heat up the house!
Star Gazing
Enjoy spending some time outside stargazing this summer. If you live in the city you might have to take a little drive to a place with fewer street lights to really be able to enjoy the stars.
This fun “What are Stars?” book is the perfect way to teach young kids about stars.
Visit Museum
Find a museum that has displays and information about your kid’s interests and enjoy spending a day learning something new.
Pick Your Own Berries
Picking your own berries is not only a fun field trip but also a great way for kids to see where food comes from and for your family to enjoy some fresh berries!
Go for a Hike
Hiking is such a great way to get out in nature together. We love finding easy family-friendly trails to enjoy with our kids.
Last year we hiked and biked along the C & O Canal and we also did a couple of short hikes on the Appalachian Trail.
Visit a Waterfall
Find some waterfalls in your state and plan a trip to go see one! Bushkill Falls is a cool waterfall we visited in Pennsylvania.
Do a Craft
Summer is the perfect time to have some fun and do a craft or two. Pinterest is a great place to find crafts for kids and mom.
A few easy summer crafts we have made include a Monster Herb Garden, DIY Window Cling Stickers, and a popsicle stick star door hanger.
Watch the Blue Angels Flight Show
The Blue Angels perform flight shows all over the country, check their schedule to see if they will have a show near you.
We were lucky to see the Blue Angels perform in Annapolis, MD. Here are a few tips from our experience.
