It’s Friday and at our house, that means it’s pizza day. Friday night we have a make your own pita pizza party and everyone gets to make their own personal pizza with their favorite toppings.
There are a lot of fun weekly traditions that different families have. Some families have a weekly movie night or game night. For us, we have a weekly pizza night.

Random side note have you heard the pizza day song? If not you really should, you can thank me for getting it stuck in your head later.
Okay back on topic, pizza day is a family favorite and I love it because there is very little prep, everyone eats it without complaining and it’s a lot of fun.
Pita Bread Pizza
There are so many different ways you could make a pita pizza – everything from the pita bread to the toppings can be customized for your preferences.
To keep our pizza nights fun and easy for me I keep them really simple. We use pita bread we pick up at the store each week and pre-made pasta sauce.
You could easily make your own pita bread and sauce if you want to. I choose not to because pizza night at our house is like a day off from making dinner, so I keep it simple.
Ingredients
Pita Bread (you can use any type of pita bread we usually get ours at Costco or Aldi)
Tomato Sauce (use any type of tomato sauce you want we like to use pasta sauce that already has the seasonings mixed in)
Pizza toppings (use any of your favorite pizza toppings, I’ll share some ideas next)

Pizza Toppings
You can really use any pizza toppings you want on your pizza. My kids love keeping the pizzas basic topped only with sauce and cheese.
Jared and I have made a variety of different types of pizza everything from BBQ Chicken and Combo to Hawaiian. Below you will find a list of some pizza topping ideas, it definitely doesn’t include everything.
- pepperoni
- sausage
- ham
- chicken
- bell peppers
- olives
- red onions
- tomatoes
- spinach
- mushrooms
- bacon
- different sauces
- different cheeses
How to Make Pita Pizza
Now that you know what ingredients you need and have some ideas for toppings lets figure out how to make these pizzas.
Personally we like to make our pita pizzas in the air fryer but you can also cook them in the oven or on the grill if you prefer.

Making the pizzas is simple, get your pita bread, spread on the sauce, sprinkle it with cheese, and add your toppings.
Once you have everything you want on your pizza it’s time to bake it. We like using the air fryer since it keeps the crust from getting soggy and the cheese on top can get a little crispy.
Is Pita Pizza Healthy?
Those of you trying to stick to a diet or trying to eat healthier might be wondering how healthy pita pizza is.
Honestly, it depends on what type of pita bread you use and what toppings you put on your pizza.
Whole-wheat pita bread is obviously going to be more healthy than white pita bread. Just like chicken and veggies are going to be healthier on your pizza then say doing a meat lovers pizza.

The great thing about pita pizzas is that you can make them to fit your diet and taste preferences. So if you want a healthy pita pizza pick a healthy pita bread and healthy toppings.
Want a vegetarian pita pizza? Pick your bread and toppings to fit that diet.
You can buy or make gluten free pita bread if you can’t eat gluten.
Pita Pizza
Friday is pizza day at our house and everyone gets to make their own Pita Pizzas for dinner. It's a fun and easy dinner that everyone looks forward to.
Ingredients
- Pita Bread
- Tomato Sauce (or other type of pizza sauce)
- Pizza Toppings
- Cheese
Instructions
- Spread your sauce over the top of the pita bread.
- Sprinkle the sauce lightly with cheese of your choice we typically use mozzarella.
- Add on your favorite toppings.
- (optional) add another light layer of cheese.
- Bake your pizza. We like to bake ours in the air fryer. We set it to 400 and it usually takes about 5-7 minutes. For your first few pizzas test the time to find what works best for your air fryer and how well done you want your pizza.
- Use a spatula to get the pizza out of the air fryer, slice it and you're ready to enjoy.
