Can you believe it’s already December? You might not know it but there are a lot of holidays in December.
Christmas and New Year’s Eve are the big ones that most of us know all about but did you know there are a lot of little-known holidays that are fun to celebrate?
That’s right there is a fun and sometimes wacky holiday pretty much every day in December.
Checkout the list of holidays below for some ideas of how to celebrate that “holiday”. Don’t forget to get your free printable listing all of these holidays at the bottom of this post.
Fun Holidays in December
There are even more holidays (aka national days) in December than I share here, these are just some that I think would be fun to celebrate.
December 1st – National Christmas Lights Day
National Christmas Lights day is the perfect time to go for a Christmas lights drive or put up your own Christmas lights if you haven’t yet.
If you decide to go for a Christmas lights drive don’t forget these 3 essentials.

December 5th – International Ninja Day
Spend the day doing some Ninja crafts, watching a ninja movie or learning some ninja moves.
December 6th – St. Nicholas Day
St. Nicholas Day is a holiday in December that many people around the world celebrate. This holiday is also known as the Feast of Saint Nicholas.
This holiday is celebrated differently all around the world. In the United States those that choose to celebrate this holiday often celebrate by leaving their shoes out for Saint Nicholas to fill with coins or treats.
December 7th – National Letter Writing Day
Spend the day writing letters or better yet getting your Christmas cards ready to send.
December 8th – National Brownie Day
Celebrate National Brownie Day by making and of course eating some brownies. During the holidays I personally love peppermint brownies.

It seems crazy to me that there is a national ice cream day in December. But since I love ice cream of course I will celebrate. I plan on celebrating by eating store bought ice cream, but you could always make your own ice cream.
December 14th – Monkey Day
Have fun doing some Monkey crafts or activities today. Or you could always watch an episode or two of Curious George.
December 15th – National Cupcake Day
Make and decorate cupcakes for National Cupcake day. The hardest part is deciding what type of cupcake to make!
December 16th – National Chocolate Covered Anything Day
Eat a chocolate covered treat and celebrate a holiday? Yeah I can do that. This would also be a perfect time to enjoy some fondue.
December 17th – National Maple Syrup Day
I plan on celebrating national maple syrup day by making pancakes for breakfast. But you could always enjoy another fun maple treat.
December 18th – Answer the Telephone Like Buddy the Elf Day
Don’t you love this part of the Elf movie? Have fun answering the phone with “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?” or if that’s a little much you could always enjoy watching Elf instead.

December 29th – Still Need to Do Day
Pull out the to do list and the goals you set at the beginning of the year and see what you can get done on this wacky holiday.
December 30th – National Bacon Day
Yum! Start this national day off right with a breakfast featuring bacon.
December 31st – New Years Eve
Stay up until midnight, ring in the new year, write goals or do any other New Years activity you love.
Winter Solstice
The winter solstice is on the shortest day of the year which is typically between December 20 and 23 each year.
There are a lot of ancient traditions surrounding the winter solstice including the burning of a Yule Log (anyone else thinking of the Frozen Christmas short?) , feasts of food and drink, and sunrise hikes to name a few.
You could celebrate by having a hot chocolate bar, getting outside when it’s light or lighting candles when it gets dark.
Wow that was a lot of holidays in December you probably didn’t expect to celebrate. I know I won’t be celebrating all of these holidays but it’s fun to know what holidays there are each month. And it’s fun to celebrate some of these holidays when they fit.
