I love looking at my goals from the beginning of the year and seeing what I have accomplished and then writing out goals for the new year.

My kids see me writing out goals and to-do lists all the time so I thought it would be fun to make a year-in-review sheet for them to fill out as we talk about the past year.

I first started doing this a couple of years ago and it’s become one of my favorite traditions each year.

There are so many different ways you could use this printable.

The year in review worksheet can be used at the end of a calendar year or at the end of a school year.

It’s a great way to review both the past calendar year and the past academic year (School grade).

Here are just a few ways people like to use this printable:

  • as a family activity at the beginning of a new year
  • as a journal page
  • in a time capsule
  • in a scrapbook
  • as a kid’s activity for a new year’s eve party
  • as a boredom busters activity (at home or in the classroom!)

Personally, I add it to my kid’s journals/scrapbooks that we keep in a 3 ring binder with journal pages, drawings, and other favorite memories.

How to Use the Worksheet For Young Kids

When my kids have been too young to write their own answers I found the best way to use this page is by verbally asking the questions and writing down the answers.

They get to do all the coloring and I love having them write their name as soon as they learn how.

How to Use the Year in Review Worksheet For Older Kids

While this might seem like a simple worksheet for older kids it’s still a perfect way for them to write down the highlights from the past year and set a few big goals for the new year.

They may want to add more details than this fillable worksheet has space for so they can always write more about the year on the back of the page.

Year in Review Template

The year-in-review printable is in black and white so it doesn’t use as much ink to print. Plus it works as a fun coloring page and worksheet!

The page has some simple images for the kids to color as well as space to write answers to the questions about the year.

I designed it as a fun way to do an annual review of the important things and some fun things that happened.

I also included a small section for setting a few new goals.

Year in Review Worksheet Questions

First when filling out the printable make sure you write the year at the top.

The first section of the worksheet is all the personal details with simple questions like your name, age, height, and address.

For young kids, you can write the answers for them. Once your kids are able to it’s fun to have them write as many answers as they can.

At first, it might only be their name, but it will still be so fun to see how their handwriting changes.

After the basic information, we get onto some fun questions.

Questions About Favorite Things

In the next few areas of the printable, you will find a section to write some of your favorites.

Your favorite things, the best idea of the year, a favorite place visited this year, and some other highlights from the year.

Looking Back and Looking Ahead

The last section of the printable is split in two with this year and next year.

The “this year” section has 4 questions for you to fill out (I tried, I learned, I made and I loved).

The “next year” section has an area to write 3 things you want to do, learn, or accomplish in the upcoming year.

It’s a simple way for kids to do goal planning for the new year.

Bonus Idea: Once you finish filling out the year-in-review questionnaire on the back you can trace your child’s hand and/or foot to remember what size they were at the end of the year.

Keep the Worksheet as an Year in Review Journal Page

Once you finish filling out the printable make sure you put it somewhere safe so you can always remember the best memories of the year.

I will add these year-in-review pages to the binders I have for each of my kids that I put their journal pages, drawings, etc in. It’s a quick and easy way to save things for them to have when they get older.

Record Your Kid’s Answers

Another fun way to review your year is to ask your kids the questions on the worksheet (and any other fun questions you want) and record a video of their answers.

It’s always so cute to see how kids word things, their facial expressions, and their excitement.

If you decide to record a video of your kids not only will you have a fun year in review journal page but also a video to remember each year.
