First off before we get into the reasons you should have an Amazon registry, even if you also register with another store, let’s talk about one important thing, is an Amazon Baby registry free?
Yes, creating an Amazon baby registry is free. There is no cost to create the registry and you can even get discounts on items that don’t get purchased from your registry.
Okay, now that you know it’s free to create the registry let me share with you a few reasons you’ll want to create one.
Reasons You Need an Amazon Registry
If you’ve never created a registry on Amazon you still might be wondering why you should create one for your baby. Don’t worry I’ll let you know why it’s a good idea to create a registry on Amazon.
1. Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box
The Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box is just one of the reasons perks of creating a baby registry. The welcome box is filled with times for parents and baby valued up to $35.
What comes in the welcome box?
What is inside the welcome box changes frequently. Some of the items I have seen included before include, a swaddle blanket, onesie, baby bottle, nursing pads, diaper sample, a small pack of wipes, and laundry detergent samples.
Will these items be what you get in your welcome box? Possibly or there might be something new. Like I said before the box changes frequently.
Is the welcome box free?
The Amazon baby registry welcome box is free, but a purchase of $10 or more from your registry must be made before you can claim your box, you must complete the registry checklist and you must be an amazon prime member to receive it. Don’t have a prime membership don’t worry you can start a free 30-day trial now!
You can make that $10 purchase or it can be made by someone else.
Once your qualifying purchase of $10 or more has shipped, you will see a “clam now” button on your Amazon baby registry page. Click the button to add the welcome box to your cart.
2.Baby Registry Checklist
One of the three things you have to do to get your free welcome box is complete the baby registry checklist.
What is the checklist? It’s a list of different categories of items you might want to add to your registry. Think everything from car seats and clothing to toys and books.
The checklist is really easy to complete you can click on each category and either select items for each subcategory or if you don’t want any of those items or you already have a car seat then just click the box to check it off.

Even if you don’t share your amazon baby registry with anyone it’s an easy way for you to create a shopping list of things you need/want to get before the baby comes. Plus you get to take advantage of the other perks too.
How Does an Amazon Baby Registry Work
An Amazon baby registry is really simple. First log into your amazon account, if you don’t have one don’t worry you can set one up for free.
Once you have your account set up click the Account and List tab under your name on the right side and then under the “your lists” column click baby registry.
After clicking on the baby registry simply fill out the information it asks for and then use the registry checklist to start adding items to your baby registry.
You can also search for items as you would when shopping and instead of clicking add to cart scroll down a little and click add to baby registry.
Continue adding things to your registry until everything you want has been added.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the welcome box and completion discount. If you don’t have an amazon prime account you can get a free 30-day trial.
You might want to start the trial just a few weeks before the baby comes so you can get both the welcome box and use your completion discount when you can get the biggest discount as a prime member.
Can an Amazon Baby Registry be Private
When setting up your Amazon baby registry you can set your registry to private, shared so only those with the link can access it or public. Anyone can see your registry if it’s set to public and they will be able to search for a baby registry and yours will be listed.
Amazon Baby Registry Must-Haves
Now that you know how to set up your registry let’s get to the fun stuff, what to put on your registry.
Depending on if it’s your first baby or not you might include different things on your registry. But no matter what number of baby you’re having there are a few things you definitely want to include.
Diapers
A baby will go through 2,500 to 3,000 diapers in their first year of life so don’t forget to add diapers in varying sizes to your registry. I would register for both newborn and size 1 diaper. (These are my favorite newborn diapers because they have a curve in the front for the umbilical cord.)
You can also add a diaper fund to your registry to allow people to gift money to help with the cost of diapers.
Wipes
If your baby is going to go through 2,500+ diapers in the first year you know they are going to go through a lot of wipes too. So be sure to add a case or two of baby wipes to your registry. Believe me, you can use wipes for a lot more than just diaper changes.
Swaddle
I love swaddle blankets and while you might already have a few from your previous babies if this isn’t your first it’s always fun to get a new swaddle that’s used for the first time with this new baby.
Diaper Bag
I don’t know about you but my diaper bags get worn out so fast, that getting a new one with each baby is so nice and needed. There are tons of different diaper bag styles out there, my personal favorite is the backpack diaper bags. They are so nice for all the stages from newborn to toddler.
Outfits
While you might already have clothes for your new little one from previous pregnancies, I love getting at least one new outfit for the baby. I mean it’s hard to stop from buying all the cute baby things when your expecting isn’t it?
Be sure to put outfits on the registry in bigger sizes. You really don’t need many newborn size outfits. Most babies grow out of the newborn size really fast.
Other items to add to your registry
There are tons of other things you should also add to your registry, a lot of them will be personal preference and depend on if this is your first baby or not.
I’m currently pregnant with baby #3 but I got rid of almost all my baby stuff after baby #2 so I need to get a lot of baby things, almost like it was my first.

Things to Skip on Your Amazon Baby Registry
Depending on who you ask you will get a different answer on what items you should skip on your baby registry. A lot of it is personal preference and how you like to do things.
So you might find some of the items I would skip are things you actually want and some of my must have items are things you might want to skip.
That’s the beauty of parenting there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. It’s up to you and what will work best for your family.
Okay, I know I’m long-winded sorry, now about those items I would skip on the registry.
Baby Shoes
While baby shoes can be cute they aren’t needed and honestly, they can be a pain. It’s hard enough to keep track of blankets, pacifiers, and socks. I don’t need to add baby shoes to the list.
Also when your little one starts to walk it’s harder for them to learn how to walk with shoes on. As they learn how to balance and take steps little ones use their toes.
Diaper Genie
Some people love the diaper genie I personally think they are expensive and the refills are too. A regular trashcan works great and costs a lot less, just make sure you take it out frequently. If your little one has a really bad diaper stick it in a Ziploc bag before throwing it away to trap the smell.
To Many Newborn Outfits
I know I mentioned registering for outfits as a must have on your registry. But when your registering it might be tempting to add everything as newborn size but don’t. Be sure to add items of varying sizes and even think ahead 6-8 months and register for outfits in the bigger sizes that would work for that season.
