The little man is 14 months and I can’t believe how fast his first year has gone by. Looking back there are quite a few things that made the first year easier and some that were vital for us. Today I want to share with you our must-have items for baby’s first year and why.
Must-Haves for Baby’s First Year:
Blankets
Aden and Anais Blankets – These blankets are a must for the first year if you live in a hot and or humid place. (They are great to have no matter what!) The blankets are a good size for swaddling a newborn and using as a nursing cover.
As your little one gets bigger the blanket still works to cover them when sleeping. My favorite thing about the blankets is that they are super lightweight, they are a must for those hot summer days when your newborn still wants to be swaddled or when you are nursing. (These blankets are a must for ages 0-6 months, but they are nice to have as the baby gets older.)
** Tip – The best price I found on these blankets was on Amazon. Sometimes you can find these blankets at Ross, TJMax or Tuesday Morning, but I haven’t seen them very often.
Burp Cloths
There are so many uses for Burp cloths if your nursing you might find them especially helpful. My mom made me a bunch of burp cloths – there are a ton of free patterns for burp cloths on Pinterest.

Baby Gowns
When I first put our little boy in a “Nightgown” Jared did not think it was a good idea for a boy to be in a dress. Once he realized how easy it was to change a diaper when the baby was in this outfit he changed his mind.
These Gowns are a must for easy diaper changes in the middle of the night. It is especially helpful when your baby still has the umbilical cord.
Swing
Some babies don’t like to swing, our little man loved it. The swing is nice to be able to put a napping baby in, often if they wake up the motion will put them back to sleep. Sometimes I would put our little guy in the swing at the bathroom door so I could shower.
Moby Wrap
There are a lot of different baby carriers out there, we loved the Moby Wrap. We used the Wrap from the time our little one was a couple of weeks old until he was 1.
We loved that when he was a newborn we could have him securely facing us and as he got older he was able to face outward.

Pacifier
If you can get your baby to take a pacifier it is a lifesaver. I had a hard time nursing at first and after we got the little man to suck on a pacifier he was able to suck when nursing better. Having your child take a pacifier is a nice way to be able to sooth the baby quickly when on the go. Our little man’s favorite pacifiers had a ring he could move to make noise.
Travel System
We loved our travel system, we used the car seat for the first 6 months and the stroller is still used. We got a Baby Trend Travel System and we love it.
I know there are a lot of things you could get for your baby, but they don’t need much. These things along with clothes, diapers, wipes and the snot bulb they give you at the hospital are all we really needed for the first 6 months with our little man.
