5 Reasons To Visit The Hershey Story Museum

Inside: Our experience at The Hershey Story Museum and answers to a few frequently asked questions.

We recently had the chance to visit the Hershey Story Museum as a family and had a great time learning more about Milton Hershey, the Hershey Chocolate Company and the town of Hershey, PA.

The Hershey Story Museum

The Hershey Story Museum is located in Hershey only a short drive from the theme park and chocolate world.

The museum is filled with interactive exhibits, antiques and artifacts for all ages to enjoy.

Reasons to Visit the Hershey Story Museum

If you’re interested in learning more about Milton Hershey, his company or his town then a visit to the museum is a must.

The museum hours change throughout the year so be sure to check the official website before visiting.

At the start of the museum experience you are given a wooden token that you can personalize with a color and your name. Throughout the museum you use that token to play videos.

Deeper Look at Hershey

If you have visited Hershey’s Chocolate World you have probably seen the timeline on the wall as you walk to the free chocolate tour ride. The timeline shares some of the history of Milton Hershey and the Hershey Chocolate company.

The Hershey Story Museum shares even more and has an even more detailed timeline you can explore.

Kids Scavenger Hunt

At the front desk you can ask for a kids scavenger hunt or you can print one out at home before visiting.

The scavenger hunt is designed for young kids but even our older two enjoyed it. Having the paper scavenger hunt gave them things to be looking for as we explored the museum.

Self Guided Tour

The Hershey Story Museum is a self guided tour with video, audio and visual displays. Because the tour is self guided you can spend as much or as little time as you want going through the museum.

We loved that we could spend more time looking at and learning about the things that interested us, and move quickly through other areas.

Historical Artifacts

Our favorite part of the museum experience was seeing all the historical artifacts. There are a lot of interesting items to see in the museum.

Hershey chewing gum and Hershey soaps were some of the items we were really surprised to see.

It was interesting learning about how Milton Hershey came to make chocolate instead of the other items he tried making along the way.

Interactive Exhibits

The wooden token makes the exhibits more fun for kids. There are also different items kids can touch throughout the museum.

Along with the 5 permanent exhibits in the museum there is a special exhibit that is displayed for limited time.

The five permanent exhibits use the wooden coins, videos and a historical artifacts with a few things for kids to touch and move.

The special exhibit is designed especially for kids and includes a LOT of hands on activities. My kids loved the special exhibit which was “Mr. Hershey’s Cuba” when we visited.

This area the kids built a model town, learned how sugar is made, and explored filtrations function.

Our favorite part of this exhibit was the microscope and the samples you could view under it.

Ask Questions

When we visited there was an employee on the second floor ready to answer our questions as we explored. She was able to help us find some of the historical items we had read about as we learned about Hershey before our visit.
