Why Mad Libs Are Great for Kids

Mad Libs are a fun fill-in-the-blanks game where kids complete a story by choosing random words based on different parts of speech. Each completed story ends up with a personal touch, a lot of giggles, and often some hilarious stories to share!

These stories are a great way for kids to practice parts of speech in a fun way by filling in the missing words.

These cute mad libs are a fun way for younger readers, middle schoolers, and even young learners to build their grammar knowledge while getting into the Halloween spirit. Plus, they’re a big hit at Halloween parties for kids of all ages!

Halloween Mad Libs

I decided to make a few Halloween mad libs stories of different lengths to do with my kids this year. Some of the stories are really short, a couple of them are half of a page and one of them is long (a full page!) with a lot of blank spaces.

The Halloween mad lib stories are:

  • The Friendly Ghost
  • My Pumpkin
  • The Spooky Cat
  • The Pumpkin Patch
  • The Great Pumpkin Heist
  • Escape from the Abandoned Carnival
  • Dad’s Costume Disaster

How to Use the Mad Libs Printable

Print the stories you want to use and cut them apart if you don’t want the short ones all on the same page. Work together as a class/ family or let everyone do a story individually.

Don’t read the storie as you go simply fill in the blanks with the verbs, adjectives, foods, etc. then read the story for the most silliness.

Parts of speech use in these fun stories include:

  • adjectives
  • nouns
  • plural nouns
  • verb
  • past tense verb
  • adverb
  • -ing verb

There are also blanks perfect for younger kids that don’t require them to know parts of speech. Blanks with things like food, silly name, animal, body part, etc.
