Inside: Fun Halloween Paper Bag Haunted House Craft with a printable template to make it easy!
With Halloween coming up fast I wanted to share what might be my favorite Halloween kids craft to date…a paper bag haunted house.
The kids and I had so much fun making this easy haunted house craft and they turned out so cute.
I had a bunch of paper lunch bags so I thought it would be fun to do some Halloween paper bag crafts. They have turned out cuter than I ever expected.
Reasons To Do Paper Bag Crafts
There are several reasons I love doing paper bag crafts with my kids.
- Paper Lunch Bags are Cheap
- You need basic craft supplies (which I usually already have)
- The crafts are perfect for multiple ages.
- They turn out so cute!
When to Do Halloween Paper Bag Crafts
Halloween paper bag crafts are a perfect addition to a class party or as a art class activity in preschool or elementary school.
Library story times can incorporate simple paper bag crafts into Halloween story times.
Doing these crafts at home for homeschool, an after school activity or as part of a Halloween party are all great times and places to do these fun and affordable Halloween crafts.
Paper Bag Haunted House Craft
When I showed my kids what we were going to make they were so excited. This craft is the perfect way to get creative without having to be able to draw really well.
Haunted House Craft Supplies
- paper lunch bag (brown or white)
- printable template
- crayons, markers or colored pencils
- glue
- tape (optional)
- stickers, glitter or anything else you want to use (optional)
With the haunted house template kids can color windows, a roof, door and fun characters without having to draw. If they want they can easily draw and add their own touches to the haunted house.
My preschooler and elementary age kids all loved making this Halloween craft.
The preschooler needed help cutting everything out but did the rest of the craft on his own.
Making the Haunted House Paper Bag Craft
The first step of making this fun haunted house craft is coloring all the house elements.
I gave my kids each a haunted house template page and let them have fun coloring.
Once it was all colored it was time to cut things out. Depending on the ages (and attention spans) of your children you may need to help with this step.
After everything for your paper bag haunted house is cut out it’s time to add all the fun elements to your bag.
We used brown paper bags to make our haunted houses, but you can use white if you prefer (or have them on hand).
To attach the elements of your house you can simple glue them wherever you want on the bag. It’s a good idea to lay things out the way you want them before you start gluing.
If you want to add a fun extra element to your bag you can tape the top of the windows to the bag and put spiders, ghosts or anything you want glued/drawn behind the window.
Taping only the top or side of the window gives a fun lift the flap element to the house.
Once everything is glued or taped to the bag you can call it good or you can add more details.
Glitter gel pens and spooky stickers can make this Halloween craft extra fun.
After finishing your Paper Bag Haunted House Craft you can stand it up and display it around the house for a fun decoration or fill it with treats to give a friend.
