The one thing I have never really loved about apple pie is the crust. I feel like most apple pies have too much crust and the crust has no taste. So I have been experimenting with how to get a flavor-packed and easy apple pie.

Get ready for it! This fast and easy Apple Pie has it all a delicious cinnamon roll crust, it’s beautiful to look at and is flavor-packed from the first bite to the last.

Fast and Easy Apple Pie

First off this is not made from scratch apple pie. It’s a quick and easy apple pie that tastes delicious and looks amazing. You could easily make this apple pie from scratch, it would just take a lot more time.

To make this delicious pie all you need is your favorite canned apple pie filling and canned cinnamon rolls with icing.

Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Crust

This apple pie has a delicious cinnamon roll crust made using canned cinnamon rolls you can get in the refrigerator section of the grocery store.

First, you’re going to take one can of the cinnamon rolls and separate the cinnamon rolls and place them on a sheet of plastic wrap.

Place them close together forming somewhat of a circle. Depending on the size of your pie tin you might not use a whole can of cinnamon rolls for the bottom crust.

Take another piece of plastic and place it over the cinnamon rolls and use a rolling pin to roll out the cinnamon rolls until they are the thickness of a normal pie crust.

The cinnamon rolls should smash together to make a big crust. Once the crust is rolled out thin, remove the top layer of plastic.

Place a pie tin upside down on the cinnamon rolls and using the plastic that the cinnamon rolls are on flip the crust into the pie tin.

Press the cinnamon rolls into the pan and then slowly remove the plastic wrap.

Once the plastic has been removed cut off the excess dough around the edge of the pan and use it to fill in any holes in the crust.

Apple Pie Filling

The filling for this apple pie is simply a pre-made apple pie filling. You can easily use homemade apple pie filling or your favorite brand of Apple Pie filling.

My favorite is the Baker’s Corner Apple Pie filling that you can get at Aldi. This pie filling tastes so much like homemade pie filling and it has only a few basic ingredients (Sliced apples, water, sugar, modified cornstarch, cinnamon, and erythorbic acid to promote color retention).

Lattice top for the Pie

I love how pies look with a lattice top and since we are using pre-made cinnamon rolls it’s so easy to top this pie with a lattice crust.

Take another package of pre-made cinnamon rolls and unroll each of the cinnamon rolls. Place one of the unrolled cinnamon rolls across the center of the pie and cut of the excess.

Then place two more lines of cinnamon rolls on each side and cut off the excess dough. Now for the cross side, you aren’t going to have enough long pieces of the cinnamon roll to do this but you can easily piece together the ends you cut off from the first side.

Fold back every other line of dough to the center of the pie and then place a strip of dough across. Now fold the lines back down and fold up the alternate lines. Do this until you have 4 or 5 lines across the pie.

Edging the Pie

Around the edge of the pie take the remaining pieces of the cinnamon roll and place them around the edge. Then you can use a fork to smash the layers of the crust together if you would like.

Baking

Follow the cooking instructions on your apple pie filling to bake the pie. Make sure to watch the crust closely so it doesn’t burn. I set my timer for about every 10 minutes just to make sure that the crust is looking good.

Pro Tip: always cook your pies on a cookie sheet it makes it easier to take them in and out of the oven and if the filling leaks it won’t be all over the oven.

The Finishing Touch

The finishing touch for this pie that makes it look so delicious is adding the icing. Drizzle the warm pie with the icing that came with your cinnamon rolls. This is what pushes the pie from looking good to looking amazing, plus it adds more sweetness and flavor to the pie.
