Blog Income Report June 2021: How I Made $948.61

We are halfway through the year which means this is my 6th blog income report (you can find past months here). June was the best month for ad earnings since joining Mediavine. I had record setting days and a record month for my ad income.

June 2021 Income Report for my Mom Blog

I was really excited to see how much I was able to make in June because I honestly wasn’t able to spend very much time blogging. We have been working on our house like crazy and we moved out of our apartment so yes it’s been crazy.

The nice things about having a blog that is several years old and has posts that are SEO optimized and rank on google is that even when I don’t get a lot of blogging done I can still make money and even set records for earning.

Why I’m Writing a Blog Income Report

After getting accepted into Mediavine last summer (I applied Memorial day weekend in 2020), I decided I wanted to do an income report each month of my first full year in Mediavine (Hello 2021!).

This is my 6th income report and I wasn’t really sure how I would like writing these income reports when I started in January, but I love it. I love that I can see my goals and results all written out each month. I also love the accountability that putting this post out there puts on me.

Even if no one reads this post, knowing that someone could read it makes me really want to hit the goals I set each month.

One of the big reasons I wanted to write this income report series is because I rarely see income reports for people that don’t blog about blogging. (If you don’t know this already you can make a ton of money writing about “blogging”.)

I want this income report to show that you can make money with a lifestyle blog you don’t have to have a specific niche and you don’t have to blog about blogging to make money.

Yes, I know I’m still really small and not making that much money compared to many bloggers but I’m also making a lot more money than many bloggers. For years I dreamed about making as much money as I do now with my blog. While my blog still has a lot more growing to do I’m really happy with how much it’s grown in the last year.

I hope you enjoy reading this income report and it is motivating to you. (Other bloggers income reports have been very motivating to me over the years and helped me stick with this blogging gig when I feel burnt out!)

If this blog income report does nothing else I hope it helps you realize that not all bloggers are making a ton of money.

Remember there will always be someone more successful, but don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or your middle to someone else’s end.

What I’m Including (or Not) In This Report

Before getting into my goals and income for June let me just clarify a few things.

#1 I will only be sharing my income from Mediavine. (Remember this is only 1 of the income streams I have for this blog) Some months it’s my highest income source but most of the time it’s the second.

#2 The income amount I share is the income before I take out expenses or pay taxes.

#3 Each blog will make a different amount of money with ads even if they have similar topics and traffic.

#4 I was accepted into Mediavine before the traffic requirements changed to 50,000 sessions.

Blog Income Report June 2021

I like presenting my income reports with the goals I had set for the month and then if I hit those goals format. Along with telling you what my goals are and if I met them I also like to give you more information about why I set the goal, hitting it, etc.

June Goals

Okay, let’s take a look at the goals I set for my blog in June. I had several goals including the number of sessions I wanted to hit, the amount of ad income I wanted to make, and tasks I wanted to complete.

Traffic Goal

My goal was to hit 35,000 sessions on my website in June. This is an increase of 10,000 sessions from my goal for May, but since I hit 30,000 sessions in May I was hopeful my traffic would increase.

When looking at my blog traffic I personally like to set my google analytics to compare the current sessions/pageviews with the same month last year. This helps me have a better perspective of how my blog is growing year over year.

Last year in June I had 31,643 sessions so hitting 35,000 sessions this year seemed like a little stretch. I knew I wouldn’t be able to do a lot in June so I was just hoping for the best.

Goal Met? No (but so close!)

I was less than 2,000 sessions away from hitting my goal for the month, about a week before the end of the month when I realized how close it was going to be I shared more posts on Facebook and I even promoted some pins but it didn’t boost me as much as I needed to hit my goal.

My goal was 35,000 sessions and I got 33,037 sessions, which was an improvement from the number of sessions I had last year.

While I wish I was reporting much bigger numbers for my traffic, I am excited by the growth. The number of sessions in June 2021 is a 4.41% increase from last year. While not as impressive as the increases I have seen in other months it is still an improvement.

Content Goals

For June I had the content goal of publishing 4 new blog posts. I would really like to be able to publish more content because that is what I have seen really increase my traffic over the years. But with moving and house projects creating a lot of content right now just isn’t happening.

Goal Met? YES!

In June I published 7 blog posts, 4 of them were new and 3 were posts I updated. So yes not only did I meet my goal of publishing new blog posts I also updated some older posts with new pictures and more information.

Last year, I did a couple of 30-day blog post challenges, which helped my blog traffic grow. So I’m hoping I can do a couple of these again this year (most likely later this fall)

June Income Goal

Reminder – for my June income, I’m only sharing the income I made with Mediavine ads. You can read about all the different ways I make money on this blog here.

At the end of June last year I got Mediavine ads put on my website so I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary with the ad company.

It’s crazy looking back at the last year and seeing how much Mediavine ads have changed my life with the income from the blog. I know I’m still not making that much money, but I’m making so much more from this than I ever have before.

Each month this year my income from ads has grown. For June I set the goal of making $800 from Mediavine Ads.

In May I made $729.24 so I felt like $800 for June was a good goal, plus I knew I had some posts that are popular in June that rank #1 in google searches.

Goal Met? YES

Goal $800 from ads and I made $948.61 from ads with Mediavine. This was my biggest Mediavine month yet and a big improvement from June 2020 when I made $139.55 from AdSense for the whole month (it was my biggest month with AdSense). I can’t wait to see what my lifestyle blog income reports look like for the rest of the year (especially quarter 4).

This month Ad income was my highest source of revenue for the blog.

Send 2 Email Newsletters

I have been really wanting to do better at sending emails to my newsletter subscribers so for June I set the goal to send 2 newsletters.

Goal Met? Yes

I sent 3 emails to my subscribers in June. My open and click through rate aren’t very good though so I think it’s about time to seriously clean out my email list.

I started growing my email list in 2017 and then never really sent anything until this year. So I guess it makes sense that my emails aren’t really getting read.

Goals for July

For July I have a few goals for the blog but they aren’t very big since we are still in the middle of a bunch of house projects, like finishing the kitchen. So I’m keeping it pretty simple.

– 25,000 Sessions
– Publish 4 Blog Posts
– $500 Mediavine Ad income
– 2 Email Newsletters sent

Well, that’s all I have to share about last month’s lifestyle blog income report and my blogging goals. Keep an eye out to see what my income is this month in my next income report.
