Crayon Resist Watercolor Pumpkins (+ Free Printable)

Inside: Fun ways to do this magical pumpkins crayon resist watercolor activity, plus a free printable pumpkin page.

Seasonal activities are some of my favorite things to include in our homeschool days. But with four little ones the activities need to be simple and fun.

These Magical Pumpkins as I like calling them are such an easy craft/ activity to do in the fall. They can be used for Halloween, Thanksgiving or anytime during the fall season.

The pumpkins aren’t exactly magical to be technical they are crayon resist watercolors, but you can easily make them seem like a magical craft for kids.

Crayon Resist Watercolor Pumpkins

Crayon resist watercolor crafts are such a fun activity to do with kids and can easily be done in so many different ways.

For our watercolor magical pumpkins I used pumpkin shapes and they turned out so cute.

The best part is that the kids loved the activity and it only took a few minutes to prep, all with supplies I already had.

Supplies:

  • Pumpkin printable (at bottom of post)
  • Cardstock or watercolor paper
  • White crayons
  • Water colors with brushes

Magical Pumpkin Craft aka Crayon Resist Watercolor Pumpkins

The first thing to do in prepping this craft is print out the pumpkin template.

You can print the pumpkins on regular paper but since kids will be water coloring I recommend printing on cardstock or water color paper.

Once you have printed the pumpkin template it’s time to prep the magic.

Grab a white crayon and draw on the pumpkins.

For Halloween you can draw jack o’ lantern faces, to make it educational draw spelling or sight words, for toddlers draw letters, shapes or numbers.

After you draw the magical words or pictures on the pumpkins pull out the water colors, brushes (these ones are amazing!) and call over the kids.

As the kids start to watercolor the pumpkins they will have fun seeing the “magical” images that appear on each pumpkin.

How to Use Crayon Resist Watercolor Pumpkins

There are a lot of different ways you can use this activity. It can be used in the classroom, for a Halloween or Thanksgiving party or as part of your homeschool.

You can have kids do both the drawing and painting or you can do the crayon drawing to create the “magical” part of the activity.

I chose to prep the crayon resist part before doing the activity with my kids. I used it as a fun way to take some of their language art lesson out of the book and into an activity.

For my toddler I wrote letters that he has been learning on the pumpkins mixed with a few silly faces. My older kids found spelling and sight words on their pumpkins.
