Mangos are a delicious and healthy tropical fruit, but if you don’t know how to peel a mango it can be a pain to get one cut, so you might not get to enjoy them as often as you would like.

Luckily there is a really easy way to peel and slice a mango so you can enjoy this fruit as often as you would like.
How to Pick a Ripe Mango
Before you’re ready to peel or slice a mango you need to pick a ripe one, so you get the sweetest fruit you can.
Mangoes are typically in season between March and June, but you can find them year round at most grocery stores.

When picking a mango you can tell that it’s ripe by the smell and feel of the mango.

You want the mango to have a strong sweet mango smell and give a little when squeezed. You don’t want it to be too soft or it will be mushy. A little bit of oozing sap is also an indication of a ripe mango.
How to Peel a Mango
Once you have your ripe mango it’s time to get it peeled. I have always struggled with peeling mangoes. It seems like so much of it is wasted and it can get so slippery trying to peel the mango.
Luckily I recently learned an awesome hack that makes peeling a mango so easy.
How to Peel a Mango with a Glass
To peel a mango with a glass all you need is a knife, cutting board, and glass. Before you start peeling and slicing the mango be sure to wash it.
Cut Mango from the Seed
If you’ve ever eaten a mango before you know that there is a long flat seed in the middle of the mango. To peel the mango with a glass you’re first going to cut the mango off the seed.
Hold your mango standing upright with the stem at the top and slice of the big sides of the mango on each side. Leave a small space from the stem to avoid the seed completely.

Turn the mango and cut the smaller sides around the seed.
Now you should have 4 (2 small and 2 larg) slices of mango with the peel still on.
Peeling the Mango
Grab the glass for this part, the thinner the rim the easier it will be to peel the mango with.

Hold one of the mango slices in your hand and using the glass starting at the bottom of the mango slice slide the glass between the mango skin and the fruit.

Continue pushing the glass upward until the fruit has been separated from the skin. The fruit will be in the glass and you will be left holding the mango skin.

Repeat this step with each of the slices of mango.
Cutting the Mango
Now that you have a peeled mango it’s time to get it cut. Use a pairing knife cut the mango into chunks or slices whichever you prefer.
Now you have a peeled and cut mango all ready to enjoy or be used to make a delicious mango recipe. But what about the seed?
What to do with the Mango Seed
As hard as you try it’s going to be impossible to get all the mango off the seed. So instead enjoy eating the remaining mango off the seed after you’re done peeling and slicing it.
Think of it as one of the perks of cutting the mango.
Now that you know how to easily peel a mango how are you going to enjoy it?
