July Blog Income Report {2021}

You guys I can’t believe it’s already August, that means it’s back to school season and time for me to get started thinking about Christmas. Anyway, let’s save that for later and instead talk about my July blog income.

July is the 7th month I have been sharing an income report with y’all and it wasn’t the best month I have had but it was an improvement from my income last year.

July 2021 Income Report

After my amazing income in June, it was kind of disappointing to see that income amount going down in July. I was really hoping that I could keep the momentum I had going the past few months and my income would increase again.

Why I’m Writing a Blog Income Report

After getting accepted into Mediavine last summer (I applied on Memorial day weekend in 2020), I decided I wanted to do an income report each month of my first full year in Mediavine (Hello 2021!).

This is my 7th income report. When I started writing these income reports in January I wasn’t really sure how I would like them, but I love writing them.

I love that I can see my goals and results all written out each month. I also love the accountability that putting this post out there puts on me.

One of the big reasons I wanted to write this income report series is because I rarely see income reports for lifestyle blogs, most of the income reports I see are from bloggers who blog about blogging.

I want this income report to show that you can make money with a lifestyle blog you don’t have to have a specific niche and you don’t have to blog about blogging to make money.

Yes, I know I’m still really small and not making that much money compared to many bloggers but I’m also making a lot more money than other bloggers. For years I dreamed about making as much money as I do now with my blog. While my blog still has a lot more growing to do I’m really happy with how much it’s grown in the last year.

I hope you enjoy reading this income report and it is motivating to you. (Reading other blog income reports has been very motivating to me over the years and helped me stick with this blogging thing when I feel burnt out!)

If this blog income report does nothing else I hope it helps you realize that not all bloggers are making a ton of money.

Remember there will always be someone more successful, but don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or your middle to someone else’s end.

What I’m Including (or Not) In This Report

Before getting into my goals and income for July let me just clarify a few things.

#1 I will only be sharing my income from Mediavine. (Remember this is only 1 of the income streams I have for this blog) Some months it’s my highest income source but most of the time I make more on product sales.

#2 The income amount I share is the income before I take out expenses or pay taxes.

#3 Each blog will make a different amount of money with ads even if they have similar topics and traffic.

#4 I was accepted into Mediavine before the traffic requirements changed to 50,000 sessions. So if you get accepted with the new requirement you can most likely expect to make more money.

Blog Income Report July 2021

I like presenting my income reports with the goals I set for the month and then if I hit those goals format. Along with telling you what my goals are and if I met them I also like to give you more information about why I set the goal, hitting it, etc.

July Goals

Okay, let’s take a look at the goals I set for my blog in July. I had several goals including the number of sessions I wanted to hit, the amount of ad income I wanted to make, and tasks I wanted to complete.

Traffic Goal

My traffic goal for July was to hit 25,000 sessions on my website. This is a decrease of 10,000 sessions from my goal for June. While I was hopeful that I would far exceed my goal, I based it off of the fact that my traffic decreased in July last year.

When looking at my blog traffic I personally like to set my google analytics to compare the current sessions/pageviews with the same month last year. This helps me have a better perspective of how my blog is growing year over year.

Last year in July I had 18,274 sessions so hitting 25,000 sessions this year seemed like a stretch.

Goal Met? No

I was about 5,000 page views off from hitting my goal for July.

My goal was 25,000 sessions and I got 20,202 sessions. While I didn’t hit my goal for the month my traffic did improve from the number of sessions I had in July last year.

While I wish I was reporting much bigger numbers for my traffic last month, I am excited by the growth. The number of sessions in July 2021 is a 10.55% increase from last year. While not as impressive as the increases I have seen in other months it is still progress!

Content Goals

For July I had the content goal of publishing 4 new blog posts. I would really like to be able to publish more content because that is what I have seen really increase my traffic over the years. But with all the house projects we are still working on creating a lot of content right now just isn’t happening, yet.

Goal Met? YES!

In June I published 6 blog posts, 5 of them were new and 1 was a post I updated from several years ago. So yes not only did I meet my goal of publishing new blog posts I also updated some older posts with new pictures and more information.

Last year, I did a couple of 30-day blog post challenges, which helped my blog traffic grow. So I’m hoping I can do a one of these challenges in the next month or so.

July Income Goal

Reminder – for my July income, I’m only sharing the income I made with Mediavine ads. You can read about all the different ways I make money on this blog here.

At the end of June last year I got Mediavine ads put on my website so I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary with the ad company.

It’s crazy looking back at the last year and seeing how much Mediavine ads have changed my life with the income from the blog. I know I’m still not making that much money, but I’m making so much more from this than I ever have before.

Each month this year my income from ads has grown. My July blog income goal was to make $500 from Mediavine Ads.

Yes this goal is a decrease from the $948.61 I made in June. The reason I set my goal to a lower number is because I was anticipating getting less traffic to my blog for the month.

Goal Met? YES

Goal $500 from ads and I made $536.41 from ads with Mediavine. While this wasn’t my biggest Mediavine month, it was an improvement from my July blog income last year when I made $219.84 from my first full month in Mediavine.

After joining Mediavine and getting ads active on my website it took a couple of months for my revenue to even out.

There are a couple of likely reasons why my income from ads went down in July when compared to June’s income. First, fewer people tend to be online during the summer when kids are out of school. Second, I don’t have much back-to-school content, which is a main focused at the end of summer.

I have written one back-to-school post this month and have a couple more planned that I hope will help my traffic and income to be stronger during July and August next year.

Send 2 Email Newsletters

I have been really wanting to do better at sending emails to my newsletter subscribers so for July I set the goal to send 2 newsletters.

Goal Met? No

I sent 0 emails to my subscribers in July. That’s right, I didn’t get any emails sent to my list in July. I guess we can just say that July was a summer break for my email list.

Goals for August

For August I have a few goals for the blog but they aren’t very big since we are still in the middle of a bunch of house projects, like finishing the kitchen. So I’m still keeping it pretty simple.

– 20,000 Sessions
– Publish 6 Blog Posts
– $500 Mediavine Ad income
– 2 Email Newsletters sent

Well, that’s all I have to share about last month’s lifestyle blog income report and my blogging goals. Keep an eye out to see what my income is this month in my next income report.
