Why Do We Celebrate Presidents Day?
Each year on the third Monday in February we celebrate President’s Day. President’s Day is a federal holiday which means federal employees don’t work on that day, which typically means that kids don’t have school.
While it’s always fun to have a 3 day weekend have you ever wondered why we celebrate presidents day? Is Washington’s birthday the same as presidents day?

In 1885 the holiday was first established to recognize President George Washington’s birthday and was celebrated each year on February 22nd.
Eventually, in 1971 the holiday was moved to the third Monday of February and the holiday changed to a celebration of both George Washington (born Feb 22, 1732) and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays (born Feb 12, 1809).
Today the holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February each year is still officially Washington’s Birthday but many Americans refer to this holiday as President’s Day and celebrate all presidents of the united states, past and present.
