Promptly Journals Parent-Child Connection (Review)

I have always wanted to do better at keeping a journal so when I discovered promptly journals I was so excited to give them a try.

Journaling is something that I have a love-hate relationship with. In some stages of life, I have done a really good job with keeping a journal and in others, I haven’t kept a journal at all.

I feel like sometimes I struggle with what to write in a journal. When I’m just living the ordinary everyday life it’s hard to know what to write. On the other hand, when life is busy it’s hard to take the time to write anything down.

As I was looking at the different types of Promptly Journals I was really impressed. The journals are designed to help with both of my problems. They don’t take a lot of time each week to keep up and when looking at the journals on their website they actually give you an idea of the time commitment to keep up on the journal.

Each Promptly Journal (except for the blank one) has pages with guided questions to help you know what to write. Don’t worry they also have blank pages for you to write whatever you want.

What is the Promptly Journal?

Promptly Journals is a company that was started by 2 women with the mission to “make journaling as effortless as possible so people can access healing, connection, and presence whenever and wherever they need.”

When you first visit the Promptly Journals website you might be surprised to find that there isn’t just one Promptly Journal but several different ones to choose from. But no matter which of the promptly journals you decide to get the mission is still the same to make journaling easier and more accessible for everyone.

When I was trying to decide which journal to get first I had a hard time deciding between a memory journal and a connection journal. I want to do better at keeping a journal of my children’s childhood so the Childhood history journal was really tempting. In the end, I decided to get the parent-child connection journal to do with my oldest.

Parent-Child Connection Journal Review

This year I have been working on strengthening my relationship with each of my children and spending one on one time together. At the end of last year, we started doing monthly one-on-one dates with our kids and it has been so amazing.

When I saw the connection journal I felt like it would be a perfect way for me to build that connection and strengthen that relationship with my kids at home.

I ordered the parent + child connection journal in blue to do with my oldest son who just turned 7 and I love it.

The quality of the journal is more than I was expecting. I love the quality and color of the cover of the book. And the inside pages are thick white paper perfect for journaling without worrying about your pen bleeding through the pages.

The journal is set up with pages or sections for the parent and the child with the same journal prompts or activity. Along with the prompt, each page/section has a place for the date including the day of the week. (I just love that little detail!)

With how the journal is set up I feel like it’s easy to flip through and choose the pages you want to do in any order. The ribbon bookmark makes it easy to be able to pass the journal back and forth so that you both do the same pages.

Since my son is still young and often wants help with reading and writing we are doing the journal together. It’s really fun to do it this way because as we fill out the journal together many of the prompts lead to great conversations.

I love that the journal has prompts and spaces for written answers but also has places for drawing. Even though I’m not the best artist it’s fun to spend time drawing and being creative together.

It’s really fun to see how much my son loves this journal. After we finish a page he always asks if we can do just one more. He would do the journal every day. But we have settled for a weekly journal date, where we can spend 15-20 minutes journaling and talking together.

I know as my son gets older we will probably spend more time passing the journal back and forth instead of filling it out together. But for now, I’m going to enjoy this one-on-one time we get as we journal together thanks to the awesome connection journal.
