We recently decided to take a last minute drive not knowing where we were going. When we left we started driving north and ended up deciding to drive to Scranton, PA.
Scranton has been on our bucket list of places to visit since we love The Office.
For those of you who don’t know Scranton is home to the Dunder Mifflin Paper company in the American version of “The Office”.
Though the tv show was actually filmed in California the show does reference things about Scranton and even a few specific spots in Scranton.
The intro to “The Office” that shows the welcome to Scranton sign as well as the brick building was filmed in Scranton and those are places you can see if you visit the city.
When we arrived in Scranton it wasn’t what we were expecting. It’s an older town that honestly is kind of rundown.
Scranton, PA
Scranton is the largest city in Lackawanna County and the sixth-largest city in Pennsylvania with a population of about 570,000.
Scranton gained the nickname the electric city when electric lights were introduced in 1880.
Just six years later the first streetcars powered by only electricity began operating int he city. The first place to have them in the United States.
The Office Sites that Actually Exist
As you drive around Scranton you will be able to see several places mentioned in The Office. They might look a little different than what you have seen in The Office episodes.

Penn Paper Building
Address: 215 Vine St
As we drove around the town and found the red brick Penn Paper building shown in the intro to “The Office”.
In the tower of the building, you can see a sign for Penn Paper and one for Dunder Mifflin.

The Steamtown Mall
Address: 300 Lackawanna Ave
We also went to the Steamtown Mall, which is now called The Mall at Steamtown. The mall almost felt abandoned when we visited with many stores empty and not many people around.
The Mall is a must-visit place for Office fans since iconic the Scranton Welcomes You sign is located in the mall.
The sign we are all familiar with from the intro to the office has been moved to the mall and a new sign replaced it on the road.

In the parking garage under the mall, the walls are covered in murals. Most of them depicting the electric city. Which we know a little bit about thanks to Micheal Scott.
Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe
Address: 1040 S Washington Ave
We made a quick stop for a picture at Alfredo’s Pizza not Pizza by Alfredo’s as discussed in the “Launch Party” episode of The Office.
The restaurant is open if you want go in and give the pizza a try.
Poor Richard’s Pub
Address: 125 Beech St.
Poor Richard’s is a frequently mentioned place among the office cast. There are even a few episodes that are filmed at “Poor Richard’s Pub”.
The most not worthy episode about Poor Richard’s would have to be “cocktails” (Season 3 Episode 18). When Roy trashes the bar after finding out Jim kissed Pam.
