Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet

“I’m bad, and that’s good! I will never be good, and that’s not bad! There’s no one I’d rather be, than me!”

We all fell in love with Ralph, Vanellope and Fix-it Felix Jr. in Wreck-It Ralph and now they are back in Ralph breaks the Internet. Released in theaters November 21, 2018.

We headed to the theater for the first showing of Wreck it Ralph 2 on November 21 and were really surprised to arrive and find the theater empty! We ended up having a few people join us but in total there were only about 20-25 of us in the theater for the first showing of Ralph Breaks the internet.

I was really surprised that the theater wasn’t crowded, though it did make for a great movie going experience for our family. Here are our thoughts on the movie.

The Plot of Ralph Breaks the Internet

Six years have passed since the events in the first Wreck-It Ralph movie. Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz are still best friends who hang out whenever the arcade is closed and they aren’t working. Ralph thinks he is living the best life while Vanellope is starting to feel bored. So Ralph decides to make her a new track in her game and that is where the problems start.

Vanellopes game ends up getting broken and the needed part for the repair is available on eBay so Ralph and Vanellope decide to go to the internet to order the broken part. The internet is a magical place with virtual people going everywhere.

Once they find eBay Ralph and Vanellope go a little crazy bidding on the needed part and when it’s time to pay they realize getting to eBay was the easiest part of their adventure.

Needing a lot of money to pay for the new part Ralph and Vanellope talk to one of the pop-up advertisers about getting rich while playing video games. Their assignment, go into Slaughter Race the popular car racing game and steal a valuable car they can sell for $40,000. After a high-speed chase, Shank the car’s owner doesn’t give them the car but she does create a video of Ralph and send them to Buzztube a video sharing site and tells them to talk to the head algorithm.

At Buzztube they talk to the algorithm, Yesss and she gives them the money from the video Shank posted of Ralph. It’s still not enough for the part. To keep Vanellope from going back to the Slaughter Race game to talk to Shank, Ralph decides to make more videos based on those that are trending.

Ralph becomes a viral sensation and Yesss has her assistants venture out into the internet and spam users with pop up ads. Wanting to help Vanellope offers to be a pop-up advertiser. She ends up going to Oh My Disney! Where she runs into the princesses (our favorite part of the movie!)

While Ralph earns the money needed to make their purchase on eBay Vanellope doesn’t want to go home. She feels like her home is in the Slaughter Race game. Ralph discovering that Vanellope doesn’t want to go home gets frustrated and angry and goes to the dark web to get a virus to make the Slaughter Race game boring so Vanellope will want to come home.

Vanellope discovers what Ralph did and asks him to leave her alone. The surviving virus scans Ralphs insecurities and spreads them across the internet. The virus manifests into hundreds of alternate versions of Ralph that destroy the internet in their search for Vanellope.

With the help of Knowsmore, the search engine and Yesss Ralph and Vanellope try to get all of the virus Ralphs to an anti-virus software.  This doesn’t go as smoothly as they hope and the virus Ralph ends up capturing Vanellope.

Ralph gets the attention of the virus Ralphs and calls them out for being a bad friend and tells them they need to understand that letting go doesn’t mean the friendship is over but instead makes it stronger. When Ralph says this and lets go of his insecurities the virus Ralph disappear and the internet is restored.

Now Vanellope has a decision to make will she stay in Slaughter Race or return home with Ralph?

My Review of Wreck-It Ralph 2

I’m always a little skeptical going into a sequel movie. The first Wreck-It Ralph movie was so good this one had a lot to live up to. It did not disappoint. Though I still think I like the first movie a little bit better Wreck-It Ralph 2 is a movie we want to add to our Disney Movie collection.

Favorite Part of the Movie

The Princesses! I know it might seem silly but the princesses were my favorite part of the movie. They talk about the cliches of being a princess to which Vanellope can’t relate and it’s so funny and cute!

The Jokes – Throughout the movie there are little comments and statements that are so funny because they are so true! There is a lot of humor that adults and teens will find that younger kids might miss.

Positive Messages From the Movie

Just like the first Wreck-It Ralph movie this movie has some good messages it shares. Some of the main messages I took away from the movie are:

Friendship – Sometimes being a good friend means letting go. Letting go doesn’t mean the friendship is over, but instead, it strengthens it.

Look For the Positive – Throughout the movie, there are little messages and lessons reminding the characters to look for the good and positive.

Don’t Read the Comments – Yesss tells Ralph the number 1 rule of the internet, Don’t read the comments!

Everybody Has Something to Teach…and Something to Learn.  Everyone needs a role model and the chance to be a role model. In the movie, Vanellope has the chance to have both experiences. Instead of someone coming to save the day she has a role model to help her.

Should You Take Young Kids to see the Movie?

Ralph Breaks the Internet is a great family movie that shares positive messages and has something for everyone. I felt totally comfortable with my kids watching the whole movie and they loved it.

If your child is sensitive, keep an eye on them during the virus portion of the movie and if they are concerned you might want to leave for a few minutes.

Neither of my kids thought the Ralph virus was scary and even after the movie we asked if the movie was scary and our 3 year old said: “no mom it’s not scary it’s fun!”

The main reason I don’t think my kids found the Ralph virus scary is because he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone he was just trying to find his friend.

Final Thoughts

We all loved the movie and my kids keep asking to watch it again. We are really happy with how good this sequel is to one of our favorite Disney Pixar movies and we can’t wait until it comes out on Bluray so we can add it to our library.

Make sure you stay until the end!! You don’t want to miss the Post-Credits Scene!
