10 Things I wish I knew before visiting Legoland Florida

If your planning a trip to Legoland Florida Resort here are 10 things you should know before the trip. These are things I wish I would have known before our first trip.

1. It’s not located in Orlando

Legoland Florida Resort often shows up in lists of things to do in Orlando but the park is not in Orlando. It’s located in Winter Haven about 45 minutes from Orlando. That’s not a big deal if you have a car but definitely something you should know when planning your Orlando vacation.

2. Shorter Hours

Our first day at Legoland we were surprised at how short their hours were. We were expecting the park to be open into the evening since Disney is open late but Legoland closes a lot earlier even during the peak months.

3. Food Policy

Legoland doesn’t have very many food options. They have a couple of restaurants but not very many special snacks like Disney has. I will say the Apple Fries with Vanilla ice cream are a must!

Legoland does have a great outside food policy. You can bring in drinks and food that do not require heating. You can even bring in a cooler bag as long as it’s soft-sided and fits the size requirements, get the details here.

4. Best Age to Visit

Legoland is a fun park to visit but it’s definitely geared toward families with younger children. Legoland Florida resort was built for kids 2-12. So what is the best age?

I personally think the best age to visit Legoland would be from 4 to 8. By age 4 most kids will tall enough to ride any of the rides they want to. Also, there are a few rides that have age requirements as well as height requirements.

Kids between 8-12 could still really enjoy Legoland Florida but I think it’s more fun to plan the first trip when the kids are younger if you can.

Kids younger than three are free and there are several rides they can go on and enjoy. For tips on taking your toddler to Legoland check out this post.

5. Hotel Options

There aren’t a lot of hotel options near Legoland but there are a few a short drive away. Get Instant Savings up to 50% off with the Hotels.com Deal of the Day!

The Legoland hotels are located very close to the park. They can be pricey but a fun way to extend the LEGO fun outside the park.

There are currently two Legoland Florida Resort hotels; The Legoland Hotel and the Legoland Beach Retreat. Legoland Pirate Island Hotel is currently under construction and will open Spring 2020.

6. The Shows are Fun

Both the Pirates’ Cove Live Water Ski Show and The Lego City Brick Builders show are really fun to watch. They are one of our favorite things to do at Legoland.

The pirate show has a fun story as well as some amazing skiing and wake-boarding.

The City Brick Builders show has a lot of circus skills and comedy. They also include audience interaction in the show.

Both of these shows are seasonal and are canceled for bad weather.

7. Generally Not Very Busy

Some days at Legoland can be busier than others but generally, the crowds aren’t too bad. The park is large and spread out so it doesn’t feel very crowded.

8. Do it in a Day

Lines are typically fairly short so it makes it easy to do everything. Depending on your kid’s interest level you can easily do everything in a day if you hurry. To take your time enjoying everything plan on spending 2 days in the park. Then you can be sure to hit the favorites again.

9. Save Money on Tickets

There are several ways to save money at Legoland Florida.

Kids free admission – watch for free kids admission specials. We have seen specials in the kids LEGO magazines or at different restaurants. Legoland Resort also does kids stay and play free specials sometimes.

Season Passes – if you’re going to spend multiple days at Legoland or go on multiple trips to the park consider getting a season pass.

If you’re going for more than 2 days a season pass could save you a good chunk of money, especially if you get it during one of their annual pass sales. Season pass-holders get additional perks that can also save you money.

10. Slow Down and Have Fun

Legoland is a great place to enjoy amusement park rides without a big crowd. It’s a fun place to make memories together as a family so take a deep breath, slow down and enjoy.
