Legoland Pirate Island Hotel Review

We just got back from a fun trip to Legoland Florida Resort and a stay at the Pirate Island Hotel.

A couple of years ago when we lived in Florida we saw the construction of the hotel, so we were really excited to be able to stay there now that it’s open.

Details About the Pirate Island Hotel

There are several things you probably want to know before staying at the Pirate Island Hotel. So here are some of the details.

Location

The Pirate island hotel is connected to the LEGO hotel and just a few steps away from the entrance to Legoland. If you’re staying at one of the hotels you even have your own security line to use before entering the park.

Parking

Parking for the hotel is located close to the hotels and is included in your hotel stay. If you plan on leaving while Legoland is open make sure you get a tag for your car so you can get back into the hotel parking.

Resort Fees

The pirate hotel has a nightly resort fee of $25+tax. The fee is added to your Grand Total when booking your hotel stay.

Pirate Island Hotel Review

There is so much to talk about when reviewing the Legoland Pirate Island hotel, it’s hard to know where I should start.

I guess let’s start with the hotel rooms, then I’ll share about all the amenities and fun activities.

Pirate Island Hotel Rooms

At the Pirate Island hotel, there are basically two different options you can book a room or a family suite. For the room, there are different view options and accessibility options.

All of the rooms at the pirate island hotel have pirate theming and Lego play tables in the rooms.

Family Suite

We didn’t stay in the family suite so all of this information is from the hotels website.

The Pirate Island Family Suite can sleep 7 people and is a 2 bedroom suite with a sofa bed as well as the bunk bed with a trundle and king-size adult sleeping area.

The Family suite is larger and can sleep more people but it also costs a lot more than a normal room.

Rooms

We stayed in a normal Pirate Island Themed Room. And can I just say that the theming is amazing?

The carpet is so cool and the murals on the wall make the room really come to life. Also, the decorations throughout the room made from Legos are amazing! I just want to know how long it took to build all of them.

The pirate hotel rooms have a kid’s area with bunk beds and a trundle. As well as a slightly separated sleeping area for the adults with a king size bed.

Okay so let’s talk about the kid area first.

Kids Area

The kid’s area of the room has an entertainment center and Lego play tables with bricks to build as well as the beds.

Each of the bunks had its own little light and even the beds have pirate theming. The kids loved that they had their own tv and they could watch the Lego Movies when we weren’t in the park.

Between the kid’s area and the adult area is an open closet with shelves and a bathroom.

Bathroom

The bathroom is a standard hotel bathroom with a couple of exceptions.

#1 A toddler toilet seat insert and soft close toilet seats.
#2 A step-stool for reaching the sink! (why don’t more hotels do this?!?)
#3 Adorable Custom Lego Toiletries.

The Adult Area

In the area with the King size bed, there are two small built-in night tables as well as a desk area with a mini-fridge (no freezer)

Ok now that you have an idea of what the rooms let’s get to the most important thing in the room according to my kids…that would be the treasure box.

The Treasure Hunt

Right as you walk into the hotel room there is a treasure chest with a lock on it. The monkey on top of the box was holding the map to find the code to open the box.

Finding the code and getting the treasure was one of the kid’s favorite things about staying at the Pirate Island Hotel. They still ask when we are going back to do it again.

Inside the treasure chest our first day we found pirate eye patches, honest juice boxes and Lego figurine mystery bags.

On our second day the kids were so excited to get back from the park to find their treasure.

They were disappointed to find that their treasure was just put on the desk instead of in the treasure box. Even if the code had been the same my kids would have really liked finding the treasure inside the box.

If you’re staying at the hotel for more than one day you might want to send an adult back to the room first. They can make sure the treasure is in the box and if it’s not then they can put it in the box before the kids get back to the room.

The treasure on the second day was a small Lego set and more juice

Pirate Island Hotel Amenities

The amenities included with your stay include access to the pool that’s heated year-round, tons of LEGO building areas and master builders classes as well as other entertainment.

Also staying at the Pirate Island hotel you also have access to the pool at the LEGO hotel and the building areas there as well.

For an additional fee, you can enjoy the hotel’s mini-golf course, s’mores at the fire pit, or an airboat tour.

Legoland Pirate Island Hotel Pirate Ship

As part of your stay at the LEGO Pirate island hotel breakfast at the hotels is included and you also get free parking as a guest of either of the Lego hotels.

We weren’t able to do everything at the hotel but what we did was a lot of fun. Here are the amenities we think you aren’t going to want to miss.

The Pools

There is a pool for both the Pirate Island Hotel and the Legoland Hotel. When we visited in January the pools were operating on alternating days.

The day that we went to the pool the Legoland Hotel pool is the one that was open. But both hotel pools are very similar.

At first the pools look like a typical hotel pool but there are a couple of things that make them standout.

First, the pools are heated to 80 degrees making them perfect for swimming year round.

Second, all the floating Lego bricks that you can build with make the pool a favorite. We were really impressed by how many blocks there were in the pool all of the kids were able to have several to play with.

Breakfast

The breakfast at the Lego pirate hotel is definitely one of the best complimentary hotel breakfasts I have ever had.

Breakfast is served at the Shipwreck Restaurant inside the hotel. It’s an “all ye care to feast menu”.

When you arrive at the restaurant at your set time (make reservations ahead of time) you are seated and served a delicious “breakfast buffet” at your table.

The buffet breakfast plater includes potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, and mini-pancakes or Lego waffles depending on the day.

Each table receives the same breakfast plater but if you don’t like something you can switch it or ask for more of anything you would like.

You can also enjoy fruit, oatmeal and yogurt, just ask for it.

Breakfast also includes a drink of your choice, they have fresh orange juice, chocolate milk and Coke products. The chocolate milk is delicious, I definitely recommend giving it a try.

We also had dinner at the hotels restaurant but I’ll share about that in another post.

Master Builders Class

When you check into the hotel be sure to sign up for a Master Builders Class for each day you are at the hotel. If the hotel is busy it might be hard to get into a class.

When we visited there were plenty of open times and only a few kids in each class.

The master builders class is a Lego building class taught by one of the Master Builders that work at the hotel.

During the class they walk the kids step by step through how to build different things depending on the day. They also can answer questions and tell you interesting things about being a Lego builder and the different things made of Legos throughout the hotel.

Our first Master Builders Class the kids made a pencil, apple and book. The second day they made a unicorn.

The kids get to take home what they build along with a couple of extra pieces (thank goodness for that extra unicorn horn!) They will also give you instructions for whatever you build so you can take that home if you want.

Building Areas

There are building areas all over the hotel so be sure to plan time to let the kids have fun building.

Other Amenities and Entertainment

I mentioned several of the other amenities above. We weren’t able to all of them. I was sad we didn’t make it to any of the shows or game nights but the kids chose the pool and master builders.

Be sure to look at the newspaper that gets delivered in the morning to know what activities will be going on during the day and at night.

Is the Legoland Pirate Hotel Worth It?

Ok you’ve made it through this long review of the Pirate Hotel and now you’re wondering is it really worth it? Yes…and No. Let me explain.

We loved staying at the pirate hotel and we actually have a trip to the Legoland hotel planned for this fall, but the hotels are expensive.

If you’re paying full price to stay at the hotel then I’m not sure if it would be worth it. For our family it wouldn’t be worth the money to stay at the hotel when we could stay somewhere else for so much less. But if you have the money and $400+ a night isn’t a big deal than go for it, I know I would!

If spending that much for a hotel is out of our price point you might be wondering how I could say this it’s worth it to stay at the pirate hotel.

Don’t worry you can sill stay the hotels. Watch for sales, book during the off season or during the week. We were able to find prices that were less than $200 a night during one of their sales and that worked for our budget. (That is without park tickets since we have annual passes)

Yes, it was more than we normally spend for a hotel but it was totally worth it and I would definitely book another trip.
