5 Reasons to Rent an RV to Go Camping

When we were planning our most recent trip to Utah we knew we wanted to go camping with Jared’s family. (Camping with Toddlers, HELP!!) As we were getting ready for the trip we found an awesome deal for an RV rental in Salt Lake through Cruise America and decided to rent an RV for our 10-day trip.

Renting a motorhome alleviated most of my stress at the thought of camping with two toddlers. It also ended up being really nice to have the motorhome for our whole trip while we visited both sides of our family.

Last fall we went tent camping in Utah and it was a fun but stressful because we had to borrow all of the camping stuff.  No way was I flying all the camping stuff across the country!

Camping Location

The first few days we were in Utah we went camping in Nephi up the Nebo Loop. This is the first time I had gone camping in the Nebo Loop.

When Jared and I first got married we lived in Payson at the mouth of the Nebo Loop, so we took quite a few motorcycles rides through the mountains.

The campsite location was perfect thanks to Jared’s brother who found an awesome spot along Salt Creek and another little stream.

It was the perfect spot to camp with the group that included a few young kids. To make it even better the campsite was free!

Reasons to Rent an RV to go Camping

I love camping! I love sitting around the campfire and visiting, I love going on little hikes and I love spending time without all the distractions.

I don’t love sleeping outside and not having a bathroom. Renting a motorhome is definitely my kind of camping for a few reasons.

#1 Bathroom

My number one reason for a motorhome is having a bathroom. It’s so much nicer than squatting in the woods.

Shortly before going camping we potty trained our 3-year-old. (I don’t recommend flying with a newly potty trained toddler.) Jared tried to get him to experience going to the bathroom in the woods, but he didn’t like that idea. So we were really glad to have easy access to a bathroom.

Along with the bathroom, it was really nice to have a shower. Both of our kids were so dirty each day. Being able to shower them and have them clean to sleep was so nice!

#2 Beds

Since we flew across the country and then went camping it was so nice to just put sheets on a bed and sleep. We didn’t have to worry about setting up a tent, blowing up a mattress etc.

#3 Place to Hangout

On our camping trip, we got rained on a couple times and even had small hail for a few minutes.

Having an RV allowed us to all be inside and still play games and visit. During one of the storms, we had a lot of fun playing Disney Family Feud. (Your first guess should always be Minnie or Micky Mouse!)

#4 Fridge/ Freezer

Having a fridge was nice but we could have easily used a cooler. The freezer now that was a luxury.

Since we had a freezer we were able to have ice cream and other frozen foods on our camping trip. Including chicken nuggets, my kids favorite food!

#5 Microwave/Oven

Both of my little people can be picky about what they eat. Having access to a small kitchen allowed us to have some of their favorite foods to feed them when they didn’t like what we had for dinner.

Now I know there are plenty of other reasons to rent an RV to go Camping or glamping as some call it. The 5 reasons I mentioned above were some of the biggest reasons we loved having a motorhome while we camped with our toddlers.

Renting an RV took away both of the things I don’t like about camping, and allowed me to really enjoy camping with the family.

Tips for Camping in a Rented RV

Remember the RV doesn’t have everything unless you pay extra kits the RV will not have bedding or kitchen items. You will also need toilet paper, soap, towels, etc. Be sure to check and see what the RV comes with so you know what you need to bring with you.

Bring Jacks – we were surprised to find that the motorhome we rented didn’t have any jacks. If you are going to be camping outside of RV parks you will probably want to have a couple of jacks so you can get the RV level.

Don’t Forget the Bottled Water – Water from the RV should not be consumed so be sure to bring water bottles to drink and use when you brush your teeth, cook, etc.

We had so much fun camping and relaxing in the mountains with family. We are so glad we could rent an RV to make camping with our toddlers less stressful.
