Quick and Easy Clip on Bow Tie

I’m so excited to share with you how to make this quick and easy bow tie. Lately, the sewing projects around here have been for the little miss so I decided it was time to make something for my little man.

This bow tie is so quick and easy to make even for beginner sewers. It took less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Even if you are a beginner it won’t take you much longer than that.

The measurements that I used for this bow tie are perfect for toddler and slightly older. My son is 4 and it’s the perfect size for him. For an older child simply make the bow tie a little bit bigger.

Supplies

Fabric
Coordinating thread
Sewing Machine
Alligator Clip

How to Make A Bow Tie

Cut a strip of fabric 5 inches by 9 inches and another strip 5 inches by 2 inches.

Take the longer 4″x 9″ strip and fold in half right sides together. Sew a 1/2″ seem the length of the strip.

Putting the wrong sides together sew along the long side of the 4″ x 2″ strip. Sew a narrow seem with the fabric along the edge of the presser foot.

Iron the seems on both strips of fabric open.

Pull the long strip right side out. Iron both pieces of fabric so that the seem is in the middle of the strip of fabric.

Take the large strip of fabric and place the seem facing up. Fold both ends into the center.

Slightly overlap the ends in the middle and sew a line down the middle securing the two ends in the middle.

Fold the rectangle of fabric in half and pinch the sides to create a bow shape.

You can use a needle and thread to bunch the bow together and secure it.

Once the bow shape is formed use the smaller strip of fabric to wrap around the bunched part in the middle of the bow. Put the center of the smaller strip of fabric around the middle of the bow and pull the ends around the back tightly.

Put the ends together tight against the bow and sew a line.

Trim the excess fabric and add your clip. Your bow tie is done and so cute!
