May is here and it’s only a few short weeks until summer vacation! The days are getting longer and warmer. The end of May we celebrate Memorial Day, but did you know there are some other fun holidays in May?

These are not all the National days in May just the ones we thought sounded like the most fun to celebrate!

May 1: May Day

May Day is an ancient Northern Hemisphere spring festival and a traditional spring holiday in many cultures. Historically both the Greeks and Romans had festivals that were in honor of the goddess of flowers. Over time these festivals evolved into May Day.

May 2: Brothers and Sisters Day

Brothers and Sisters day is celebrated on May 2 in the United States. This is a day to celebrate the people who made your childhood memorable, your siblings.

May 4: Star Wars Day

May the 4th be with you…need I say more? What started as a pun shared by fans has now become a Star Wars holiday.

May 5: Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. While it is a minor holiday in Mexico in the United States it has become a commemoration of Mexican culture.

May 8: No Socks Day And Have A Coke Day

This silly holiday is a great day to ditch the socks and enjoy wearing sandals or no shoes at all! And it’s also Have a Coke Day the perfect day to enjoy my husband’s favorite beverage.

Plus you could always have fun making this soda can cake as a fun way to celebrate.

May 10: Clean Up Your Room Day

This holiday was invented by moms all around the world trying to get their kids to clean their room… No I’m not sure how the holiday got started. But as a mom I’m totally taking advantage of it to do some spring cleaning.

May 11: Eat What You Want Day

This holiday needs little explaining, just eat whatever you want. Don’t worry about your diet and just enjoy it.

Some desserts you might want to eat to celebrate are these delicious Almond Cheesecake Cones and these Soft Carrot Cake Cookies.

May 13: Frog Jumping Day

Frog Jumping Day is inspired by a short story written by Mark Twain called “The Celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras County.” Grab a copy and check out the story and don’t forget to do a frog activity or two.

May 14: Dance Like a Chicken Day

The song we all know as the Chicken Dance Song was originally called “The Duck Dance”. Celebrate this holiday by Dancing to the Chicken Dance Song.

May 15: National Chocolate Chip Day

Celebrate this delicious holiday by making and eating chocolate chip recipes.

May 17: World Baking Day

World Baking Day is a great time to try out a new recipe or make a family favorite. Here are some fun and easy recipes to try baking with your kids.

May 18: International Museum Day

International Museum Day was created in 1977 by The International Council of Museums. Each year museums around the world are invited to participate in this day to promote the role of museums.

Celebrate this holiday by visiting a Museum.

May 20: Pick Strawberries Day

Did you know that people began cultivating strawberries in their gardens as early as the 14th century? Celebrate this fun holiday by going to a pick your own strawberry field or by making a strawberry treat.

May 22: National Maritime Day

Maritime Day is the day to celebrate those that work in the sea trade. Sea Trade has been the largest cargo carrier in the history of the world. Though in today’s world sea trade isn’t he quickest it is still reliable.

Celebrate Maritime Day by visiting the beach or better yet the docks.

May 23: Turtle Day

Turtle Day is a great day to spend some time learning about turtles and doing a turtle craft or two. This seashell turtle craft is really fun and easy.

If you can it’s also fun to see turtles in real life so head outside and see if you can spot one or visit the zoo if turtles aren’t common in your area.

May 25: National Brown Bag It Day

Taking your lunch to work or school is a great way to save money and eat healthier. So for at least this one day take a lunch from home.

May 26: Paper Airplane Day

Grab some paper and fold a few paper airplanes to celebrate. You can even organize a friendly competition to see who can make the best paper airplane.

May 28: National Hamburger Day

Celebrate National Hamburger Day by eating a big burger. Go to your favorite burger place or make your own at home.

May 30: Water a Flower Day

Grab some water and head outside to celebrate water a flower day. Or if you have indoor flowers water those too!

May 31: National Macaroon Day

Macaroons are such a fun and delicious cookie with all that yummy coconut. Have fun making some macaroons and enjoying this coconut treat.
