Conversation Heart Races are a fun and easy valentines minute to win it game perfect for a class party, valentines get together or fun with the family.

We have had so much fun doing these conversation heart races for the last few Valentines and the kids always love it.

- Straws
- Washi Tape or masking tape (for the finish line)
Conversation Heart Races
Conversation Heart Races is a fun minute to win it type of game. The goal is to move conversation hearts by blowing through a straw across a finish line.
There are several different ways to play, depending on the ages of those playing.
Setting up the Race
Setting up the race is so easy all you need to do is decide where you want to have your heart race.
We have typically done our races on the dining room table or across the kitchen island.
Tape a line for the finish line at one end of the table or counter you will be using. Set straws and conversation hearts at the other end.
Note: You could easily do this activity on a hard (wood, tile, et) floor, counter or table. The smoother the surface the easier it will be to move the candy hearts.
How to Play Conversation Heart Races
Like I said above there are a few different ways you can do this race depending on how many people you have playing and their ages you might want to try one or more different ways of playing this game.
Speed Race
For a speed race, everyone has one or two hearts and a straw. The first person to blow their heart(s) across the finish line without them falling off the table wins.
You can have 2 people go at a time and do heats with winners advancing or you can time each person individually to find the winner.
Timed Race
For a timed race give each person a minute (or other set amount of time) and let them see how many hearts they can get across the finish line in that amount of time.
The person who gets the most hearts across the finish line wins.
Conversation Heart Relay Race
If you have a group of people playing you could do a relay race.
We found it was fun to do the relay race with a set time we did 1 minute.
To do the relay one person blows the heart across the table to the finish line and then the next person blows a heart to the finish line while the first person runs back to the back of the line.
Teams continue to take turns blowing hearts across the table one at a time until the time is up.
The team to get the most hearts across the finish line in the set amount of time wins.
Note: We played that if the heart falls off the table/counter you have to start over. It takes practice figuring out how hard to blow to get the heart to move but not too fast.
Conversation Heart Races with Young Kids
If you are playing this minute to win it game with young kids a few ways to keep it fun for them are:
- Make the distance shorter (width instead of length of a table).
- Give longer time than 1 minute.
- Skip the time and have a number of hearts to move instead.
- Give them a chance to practice before you play the games.
