Since 2013 fans have been singing “Let it Go” okay so at our house we have been singing “let it go” for only the last 2 years, since our daughter learned to sing. After anxiously waiting and counting down for Frozen 2 to be released this year we finally got to see the movie tonight.
Going into the movie I was worried I would be disappointed, because let’s be honest the first one is hard to live up to. But I was hopeful that a lot of my questions from the first Frozen movie would be answered.
Questions I had were things like:
- What happened to Anna and Elsa’s parents?
- How did Elsa get her power?
- Does anyone else have the same power?
And because I’m a romantic at heart I wanted to know what happens to Anna and Kristoff!
So did Frozen 2 answer my questions? Keep reading to find out.
The Plot of Frozen 2
The movie Frozen 2 starts off in the past, when Anna and Elsa’s parents are still with them. The girls father tells a story and their mother sings a song that becomes very important in the story that unfolds throughout the movie.
After the flashback beginning the remainder of Frozen 2 is set several years after the first film ends. All of the characters seem to have matured since the first movie, even our favorite Olaf.
Shortly after the film starts Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf are off on an adventure into the unknown. Where they meet new characters.
As the group goes into the enchanted forest Olaf tells the group he feels that their time in the forest will bring a transformation to each of them. Each person in the group is on an adventure not only into the unknown land but also into the unknown future.
Elsa has always felt she doesn’t fit into her world and she is hoping that she will find the answers she needs and figure out how she fits into her world.
In the first film she feared her powers, this time she worries her powers won’t be enough to save those she loves.
Anna the happy optimistic girl we came to love in Frozen has some challenges to face in this second movie. She faces situations that test that happy optimism and provide growth for her character.
Kristoff is ready for the next step with Anna but it’s harder than he thinks to ask her a very important question.
Olaf has matured but still provides humor and laugh out loud moments throughout the movie.
I won’t say any more about the plot because it’s always so fun to see a movie for the first time and be surprised by the twists and turns of the plot.
I will say that the story in Frozen 2 has everything you could want in a plot with some surprising twists, adventure, mild suspense and romance. It’s definitely got something for everyone.
Review of Frozen 2
As I mentioned before I was a little skeptical going into the movie because the original Frozen movie was so good. But Frozen 2 was just as good if not better than the first movie.
Now you might not all agree with me but there are several things I think that make the second Frozen movie just as good or possibly even better than the first.
Favorite Parts of the Movie
The Music- I feel like the music in Frozen 2 was amazing. The songs in this movie bring to mind several classic musicals like Les Miserables and Chicago.
Jared who is very particular about the music he likes, enjoyed the music so much he told me he wants to get the soundtrack.
The Romance – I have been told that proposing is very scary even if you know what the answer will be. Watching Kristoff struggle to propose to Anna is so funny, adorable and relatable.
I just love how the relationship between Anna and Kristoff is so sweet but also so imperfect.
Olaf – I loved Olaf in the first movie, but he is even better in the second. The character is so funny but even in his silliness he shares so many wise little nuggets of truth.
Both kids agree that Olaf is an essential and favorite part of the movie.

Positive Messages from the Movie
Just like the first Frozen movie this movie has some good messages it shares. Some of the main messages I took away from the movie are:
Change is Good – As you probably already know the Frozen 2 movie brings a lot of changes to the characters we love. The changes though hard are good, they help the characters grow, learn and find where they belong.
Do the Next Right Thing – When things get difficult and you don’t know what to do just do the next right thing. Don’t look to far forward just do the next right thing one step at a time.
Make the best out of what you can’t control – At one point in the movie Olaf talks about making the best out of what we can’t control and this is a theme that I found throughout the movie as the characters faced different challenges.
Seek the Truth – The adventures in Frozen 2 are based on the fact that Elsa and Anna are seeking the truth of the past. Pabbie says ” The truth needs to be found. Otherwise there is no future” and I think this such a great message, we learn so much when we seek to understand the past.
Love is Permanent – Though change can be good and bring growth the one thing that is permanent and strong is love. Love is what makes it possible to save everything and build new bridges where old ones have been broken.
Is Frozen 2 Kid Friendly?
After seeing the trailers for Frozen 2 I was worried that Disney might have forgotten that a lot of little kids would be wanting to see this movie. But I was wrong, thank goodness!
Frozen 2 is rated PG and there are a couple of things for parents to consider before taking their kids to see the movie.
It’s Intense
The movie has some intense parts, but isn’t jumpy or dark/creepy. There are some battle scenes and someone dies but nothing is shown in detail.
The battle scenes are shown as if in a mist because they are flashbacks. They reminded me of when Pabbie tells the royal family that fear will be Elsa’s enemy during the first movie. There is one clip where someone looks ready to attack another person but, you never see it happen.
Is the Whole Movie Intense?
No, though there are several intense moments, they don’t last long before something happens to lighten the mood for a few minutes. Olaf is great at making an intense moment so funny the whole audience is laughing.
Did We Take Our Kids?
We decided to take both of our kids to the movie, our kids typically don’t get scared in Disney Movies and they didn’t get scared by any of the intense moments in the first Frozen movie. Neither of our kids (age 4 and 2) thought the movie was scary. But that might not be the case for all kids.
If you’re kids found anything in the first Frozen movie scary then they will probably find the second movie scary. I think the intense moments have a similar feel to those in the first movie, there are just more of those moments in this film.
You know your kids best if they are sensitive or easily scared by things I would recommend going to see the movie before taking them. Often the theater setting makes things more scary than they would be watching the movie at home.
Final Thoughts
Most of the questions I had from the first movie were answered, now I might have a few more questions, but that’s a post for another day.
We all loved the movie and I can’t wait to watch it again. We are really happy with how good this sequel is to one of our favorite Disney movies and we can’t wait until it comes out on Blu-ray so we can add it to our library.
