Valentines Don’t Eat Pete

Don’t Eat Cupid is a fun Valentines twist on the classic game Don’t Eat Pete it’s perfect for class parties or as a fun game to play at home.

Don’t Eat Cupid is a fun game to play with all ages this Valentines. The game will be enjoyed the most by younger kids, that are old enough to understand the rules.

My preschooler and his friends all the way up to my 4th grader think the game is fun…especially when they like the treats.

Valentine’s Day Game: Don’t Eat Cupid

Have fun playing this game in the days leading up to Valentines or on Valentine’s Day as part of your celebration.

The game board has nine hearts in different colors. The free pdf download has editable text boxes on each of the hearts.

If you don’t type anything in the boxes they won’t print and you will have a board with nine fun colored hearts.

You can type fun valentine messages, spelling words, or even math problems in the text boxes and make this game more educational.

I typed sight words for my kids to practice on each heart and had them read aloud the word as they took the treat.

If you want to be able to change the words on the hearts without having to print a new page you could laminate the heart page with blank hearts and use a marker to write the words you want on the page.

To change the words simply wipe them off and write again.

What you Need to Play Don’t Eat Cupid:

  • Small candy or treat (We like to use M&Ms, fruit snacks, conversation hearts and marshmallows, but you can easily use any favorite small candy or treat).
  • Game board (Get it at the bottom of the post)

Playing Valentines Don’t Eat Pete (aka Cupid)

To play the game you need at least 2 people, but you can play with as many people as you want.

Place the game in the center of the playing area and have everyone sit in a circle around it. Place one piece of candy on each heart.

Choose one person to be it. This person leaves the room or covers their eyes. While the “it” person is out of the room all of the other players choose one of the 9 hearts to be “Cupid” for that round.

After “Cupid” has been chosen call the person who is “it” back into the room. Don’t tell who Cupid is, make sure everyone keeps his identity a secret!

Now the Person who is “it” gets to start choosing pieces of candy to eat while everyone watches and waits for them to pick Cupid.

Note: If you have words or math problems on the hearts the person reads the word or answers the math problem before taking the treat of each square.

As soon as they touch the candy that’s on “Cupid”, everyone calls out “DON’T EAT CUPID!!”. Their turn is now over and someone else gets a turn.

We keep try to keep the “Don’t eat cupid” yelling from getting to loud since that’s what can cause tears for young players of the game.

After each turn, the person who was it only gets to eat the candy they collected before they touched Cupid!

The game can be played multiple times so everyone gets a turn or two trying to collect candy and not eat Cupid!
