We read the Very Hungry Caterpillar and since then we have looked for butterflies outside and read several other books about butterflies. Since we have been talking a lot about butterflies I decided it would be fun to do a simple butterfly craft.
Handprint Butterfly Kids Craft
This handprint butterfly kids craft takes only a few minutes to make and requires very little prep. Plus you probably already have all the supplies you need.

Supplies
- Construction Paper
- Glue (stick and school glue)
- Googly Eyes (we used really small ones)
- Scissors
- A Pen
- Popsicle stick (I like the colored ones)
Making the Butterfly Kids Craft
The first thing you need to do to make these adorable butterflies is trace and cut out 4 handprints. We thought it was fun to do each handprint in a different color.
From the pack of construction paper we had, we chose to use pastel papers making the butterfly perfect for spring. Bold colors would also be really fun for these butterflies.

Now that you have your handprints cut out glue two hands together with the thumbs pointing opposite directions. Then glue the other two hands together.

Once you have two sets of handprints, glue the two sets together in the middle making your butterfly wings.

Now get your popsicle stick. Glue two googly eyes on to it and draw a little smile if you want.

Using school glue attach the popsicle stick to your handprint butterfly wings. Let the glue dry and your butterfly is ready to play with.
My kids love that the wings flap as they pretend to fly their butterflies.
