Outer Banks, NC – Bodie Island Lighthouse

A few weeks ago, we spent the weekend in the Outer Banks, NC. On the Outer Banks, there are 4 lighthouses – Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Ocracoke Lighthouse. We were able to visit 2 of the 4 lighthouses this time.

The first lighthouse we visited was Bodie Island Lighthouse. It was cloudy and lightly raining but we stopped and walked around for a few minutes.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is near Nags Head on the Outer Banks. According to nps.gov you can climb the lighthouse tickets are $8 for adults. There are quite a few regulations about climbing so be sure to check the website. We didn’t climb the lighthouse because of the rain and having a baby that needs to be carried.

According to NCbeaches.com there have been 3 lighthouses built at this location. Each lighthouse has had a unique problem, it seems that all the problems have been solved since shortly after the 3rd lighthouse was built in 1872.
