Outer Banks – Currituck Beach Lighthouse

While on our trip to the Outer Banks we visited the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. It’s a beautiful lighthouse surrounded by a lot of trees.

Fun Facts about the Currituck Beach Lighthouse

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is just one of many lighthouses in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This lighthouse was left unpainted to distinguish which lighthouse it was.

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse was first opened to the public in 1990 and is still open most of the year for visitors. (Be sure to check the website for specific dates and hours)

Climbing the Lighthouse

It is 220 steps to the top of the lighthouse. During our visit it was raining so they told us we could climb the tower but they wouldn’t let us outside at the top. We decided if it wasn’t worth it to spend the money since we wouldn’t get to go outside. (next time!)

There is a fee to climb the lighthouse. But exploring the grounds and parking are both free and check the website for select dates that it’s free to climb.

It started pouring rain shortly after we got to the lighthouse so our visit was cut short. Next time I hope to see more and climb up in the lighthouse.
