The first day of spring is just a few days away so it’s definitely time for a spring craft. Last week the kids and I made this Paper Heart Butterfly garland and it turned out so cute, plus you probably already have everything you need to make it.

If garlands aren’t you’re thing then you can easily just make a butterfly or two. You could even make them bigger if you want!

Paper Heart Butterfly Garland
Making this paper heart butterflies is really easy and fun. My kids loved helping make the butterflies we used for our garland.
First, cut out paper hearts. Each butterfly will be made using 2 of the paper hearts so be sure to consider that when deciding how big you want the hearts to be. Our hearts were probably about 1 1/2 inches tall.

I first cut out one heart and then used it as the template to cut out all the other hearts to the same size.
Match up the hearts in pairs for as many butterflies as you want to make. We made 9 butterflies in different spring colors.

Taking two hearts lay them overlapping with the points in the middle, to form a butterfly. Once I knew about how far overlapping the hearts would be I cut the pointed end off the top heart.
Glue the two hearts together to form the butterfly wings.

Put a line of glue where the paper hearts overlap and using small buttons or pom-poms make a line for the body of the butterfly.
Some of our butterflies had bodies that where one color (the same colored buttons) others were mixed colored.

After letting the butterflies dry we used small clothespins to hang our butterflies to make a garland above our fireplace. This paper heart garland would also look cute in a bedroom, over a window or in a playroom.
