Soft Christmas Sugar Cookies

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is spending time baking with my kids. Right now their favorite cookies to make are either pumpkin chocolate chip or sugar cookies.

I grew up baking these sugar cookies with my mom and siblings and now it’s so fun to be able to bake with my kids using the same recipe.

Baking Sugar Cookies a fun Christmas Tradition. This simple sugar cookie recipe is perfect for baking with kids.

The recipe is easy to follow and perfect for making with little helpers. The cookies are soft and delicious even without the frosting!

When mixing cookie dough I love using my bosch mixer to make it quick and easy.

The kids love helping measure and add all of the ingredients. This adds to the mess in the kitchen but it’s so fun to let them help. Plus it’s a great learning activity.

Making Sugar Cookies

This sugar cookie recipe is so simple, that’s probably why I love it so much.

First mix together the sugar, egg, butter, vanilla, and sour cream. I let the kids dump everything in the mixer then turn it on for a quick mix.

Then add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix together the dough and beat for 2 minutes.

Now for the fun part. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and have fun cutting out shapes.

Bake for about 8 minutes at 350°. Bigger cookies may take longer to bake. Let cookies cool for a few minutes on the cookie sheet before moving to a cooling rack.

Decorating the Cookies

Now for my kid’s favorite part of making these cookies, the frosting, and sprinkles.

To decorate our sugar cookies I use a simple decorating frosting or sometimes I even used store-bought frosting to keep it simple.

On our last shopping trip to Aldi, we found some fun Christmas sprinkles that were perfect for decorating our cookies.
