When cold and flu season hit and now with COVID-19 changing things all around us, it’s really important to stop the spread of germs.

While washing your hands is extremely important and should be done numerous times each day, there are several other things that should get cleaned to help stop/limit the spread of germs.
Things to Clean to Help Stop the Spread of Germs
If no one is sick and it’s not the time of year that you’re really worried about a lot of germs than cleaning these things once or twice a week will probably be enough.
When you have someone sick or easily susceptible to sickness you might want to clean these things daily, especially when sickness is going around.
#1 Cell Phone and Tablets
Think about it for a minute, when was the last time you cleaned your cellphone and cellphone case?
According to the University of Arizona, cellphones carry 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats. Chances are you probably cleaned your toilet seat more recently than your phone or tablet.

How to Clean Your Cell Phone and Tablet
If you haven’t cleaned your phone before you might be wondering how to clean it without letting moisture ruin it. There are a few easy ways to clean and sanitize your phone without hurting it.
- Disinfecting wipes (my personal favorite)
- UV cellphone Sanitizer – no liquid, heat or chemical’s used
- Tech Armor Pro Cleaning Kit for Screens
- Lens Wipes
#2 TV Remote and Gaming Controllers
Like our cell phones, we often don’t even think about there being germs on our remotes and controllers. With how often they are used though we should probably think again.
Cleaning your remote and controllers is really easy with disinfecting wipes or if you don’t have any use a paper towel that is damp with a disinfectant/ sanitizing multi-surface cleaner. Then use another paper towel to dry off the remote.
#3 Sinks and Faucet
Cleaning the sinks and faucets both in the bathrooms and kitchen can help stop the spread of germs.

Germs can easily grow and flourish in sinks whee there is moisture and often times small scraps/crumbs of food.
Be sure to scour and clean sinks and faucets at least a couple of times a week with a disinfecting cleaner.
#4 Keyboards
Keyboards that are typically used by the whole family and rarely if ever cleaned can be full of germs. If you like to snack while working on the computer you’re probably leaving crumbs and oils perfect to nourish germs and help them grow.
Clean your keyboard and mouse using a slightly damp (well wrung out) disinfecting wipe and a Compressed Air Duster to remove dust, lint and anything else form hard to reach areas of the keyboard and mouse.
#5 Towels and Rags
Kitchen towels and rags, as well as bath towels, should be changed and washed regularly. You decide how often is best for your situation.

I change kitchen rags and towels at least once a day and hand towels and bath towels are usually every 2-3 days. If someone is sick I change them more often.
#6 Knobs, Handles, and Light Switches
Doorknobs especially exterior doors and bathroom doors can get really nasty. Be sure to clean all the doorknobs throughout your home regularly to help stop the spread of germs.
Handles on the fridge, microwave, and oven should be cleaned daily to prevent the buildup of grime as well as germs.
Light Switches are something we touch all the time and a great place for germs to hide. So grab some disinfecting cleaner and clean all the switches in your house.

#7 Keys and Wallet
Let’s be honest our keys and wallets probably have more germs than we want to think about. They go everywhere with us and touch counters at different stores as well as hold cash and change which we all know isn’t very clean. Plus how many times have you dropped your keys while digging them from your bag?
Yeah, it’s probably a good idea to take a minute and use a sanitizing wipe to wipe down your wallet and keys.
#8 Pillows, Sheets and Other Bedding
Pillows, Sheets and other bedding items should be washed regularly to help stop germs from growing and spreading. If someone in your home is sick you will probably want to wash their bedding even more frequently than you normally do.

#9 Purses, Backpacks, and other Bags
Purses, Backpacks, and reusable grocery bags are just a few of the bags we should make sure to clean. These bags get used all the time and are rarely cleaned.
Some bags can be washed in the washing machine for a quick and easy clean. If the bag can’t go in the washer use sanitizing wipes or spray to clean the bags.
#10 Toothbrush
Toothbrushes should be cleaned frequently and changed every 2 to 3 months or after any sickness.
You can easily clean regular toothbrushes in the dishwasher.
Pro Tip:
One of the easiest ways I have found to clean and sanitize things is by using disinfecting wipes.
Right now those can be hard to come by so if you don’t have any don’t panic just grab your disinfectant/ sanitizing multi-surface cleaner and some paper towels they will work just fine.
What items are you trying to keep extra clean to stop the spread of germs?

This list is great, and I feel ridiculous now for never thinking about cleaning my wallet or keys. BRB…need to go grab more wipes!
