This year the 4th of July will look different for many of us, instead of traveling or going to a big parade and fireworks show many of us will be sticking closer to home.
Just because we are staying home doesn’t mean that the 4th of July isn’t going to be fun. There are so many fun things to do to celebrate the 4th of July at home.
How to Celebrate the 4th of July at Home
While staying at home to celebrate the 4th of July might be different than what you’re used to, it might become a new favorite way to celebrate the holiday.
Here are just a few simple ways to make a 4th of July spent at home extra fun.
Eat Red, White and Blue Foods
Have fun planning a menu of patriotic-themed foods. For example waffles with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream definitely fit the red, white, and blue colors of the 4th of July.
This fresh strawberry pie or the raspberry cream cheese pie would also be great foods to eat on the 4th.
Do a 4th of July Craft or Activity
A fun way to celebrate the 4th of July is by doing a craft together. You could do this patriotic craft on the 4th or in the days leading up to it. This year we made paper plate flag wreaths and they turned out so cute.

Listen to Patriotic Music

Is it just me or does decorating for a holiday just make it more fun? The great thing about decorating for the 4th of July is that you can leave the decorations up all summer long if you want…or you can switch them for some other fun summer décor.

Have a Water Fight
Growing up almost every 4th of July we played in the water. Sometimes we had a water fight with teams, water balloons and usually a couple of hoses. Other years we played water kickball, which is seriously one of my favorite summer memories of playing in the yard with my siblings.

Even if you aren’t going anywhere getting dressed up is a fun way to make the 4th of July special. There are so many fun ways to dress up for the holiday, Amazon has some awesome patriotic shirts for the whole family.
Have a BBQ
Having a backyard BBQ is one of the best parts of summer right?!? So fire up the grill and enjoy some delicious grilled food and summer sides.
Play Backyard Games
Backyard games are a great way to spend time together and enjoy the 4th spent outside.
There are tons of different backyard games to choose from, a couple of our favorite backyard games are ladder ball and cornhole.

Relax
Holidays are a great time to sleep in and enjoy a relaxing day or morning at least before starting all the party fun. Since many parades and holiday celebrations are canceled this year take advantage of this time and enjoy a more laid back and relaxing holiday.
Enjoy Fireworks
Some areas are still doing community fireworks shows that you can watch from your yard, car, or other areas while social distancing.
If your area has canceled their 4th of July fireworks show don’t worry you can have fun doing your own fireworks. Before going too crazy make sure you check your local restrictions to see what fireworks are allowed.
For our kids, their favorite fireworks are the poppers they get to throw and sparklers.
Before our kids were old enough to enjoy doing some little fireworks we would get glowsticks and let them play with them outside and they loved it.
